Ugly line, cool patch, Goblin style, anyone has the same?

Post by Ldizzy » Mon Sep 13, 2010 7:40 pm

Hey,

i kinda fucked around with some effects yesterday in bed with my laptop on my knees and i kinda came up with this. its pretty shitty... i just made it so yall could hear the patch..

i fucked around with frequency shifters .. its pretty hard to automate and each note has its own phasing-wobble speed

i know its ugly.. please be gentle...

automation is ugly, drums is ugly... nothing quantized/ mixed... but i like the patch

i want to know if anyone has made patches in the same ''genre''...?
anyone did someting similar?
how did u use it...
I kinda feel like ive never heard Coki-goblin-esque patches anywhere... (and no i dont think mine is as nice as his)

EDIT : i had a weaker version that was posted first.. i replaced it with the dry version and this post was about the weaker one, but i lost it and i dont find the url anymore...

basically its just ugly when i 'wobble it' with cutoff.... it looses its punch.. and its definition...

it is really hard to create movement in it the regular way.. and automating the autofilters require extreme precision.. i should play with that ahhah...

I only listened to the second one, its kind of cool, I like it :D. Still a bit rough around the edges of course but its on its way.

I like trying to get different bass sounds going, Ive never really gone the Goblin esque way before but its definatly an off the wall sound.

i tried replicating cokis basslines, then i realized my penis is nowhere near as big as his and stopped.

pleasantly surprised by how coki-esque it turned out to be. not feeling the first one though. second one is pretty cool.

if it's alright with you, i'd be interested in hearing a bit more of an in depth explanation of how you nailed it

ya, Ive never ended up with a sound quite like that one, Id be interested in seeing what went into it. You can never have enough odd ways to generate sounds and experiment with them.

well ive always thought that this place kinda lacks in 'recipes''!!!

I come from a hip hop background...

its a world where secrecy is a big part of the creative process... and ive never been down with such a thing. I totally recognize the fact that a lack of ''academism'' in todays musical forms is at the very basis of the incredibly diverse musical landscape we craft each day... but u know... i think we should share...

i still have to say that i feel a lot of the time people hate on sharing PRECISE tips on this forum.. a lot of answers are kindof evasive.. altho i think a lot of them are related to a lack of use of the search button... yet some people are not afraid of dropping patch names and step-by-step tips and stuff... however i am, so fuck yall..

...

nah kiddin :D

ill quit actin like a dick and tell u what i did...

i did it with albino but it could be done with almost any plugin...

ull need
A) ur favourite AU/VST
B) a pitch / spectrum shifter...
C) a saturation unit that sound nice so u can bring out the cool harmonics out of it (oh wait haha, albino has those already  ).

ive also achieved similar sound in Fm8... fm synths are capable of doing incredible sounds...

1-take ur favourite substractive v.synth...
2-create a metallic-sounding patch with a lot of low end, and a couple harmonics.. nothing too harsh... just plain metallic.
3-stick a spectrum shifter on it (if it has a mix function make sure its pushed all the way to the maximum so the dry signal doesnt come thru)... and turn the knob until u reach a point where it starts to sound like my patch...

4- u can spice it up with daisy chains of shifters

OR

1-take ur fm capable synth
2-make a metallic patch... anyhting with a not-so-mid-ranged waveform which gets modulated by another not-so-mid-ranged-waveforme (eg sine :? )
3- Play with the pitch of the second oscillator (the modulator) somewhere else then within the nice and even values (find an odd pitch value thatll modulate osc1 weirdly depending on the note u hit)... and play around with ur keyboard until u find an odd value that makes the first oscillator wibble like my patch...
4- try to stack a second modulator... but thats prolly gonna make ur sound too harsh... (yet, its all about experimenting)

shall i add...

i didnt do it but i feel i shouldve cut the low end out of it or compress it, because its a really uneven sound in the lower part of the spectrum, sortof like a reese... i suppose it could had cohesion to it...

its also really hard to write melodies with it so be creative ;)

... good luck bitches :D

.. oh and dont forget to come back and show me what u did with it, its the whole point of this thread.

while we're at it.. i really lack in classic wobble skills.. some sounds i hear often

anyone could help me with :

i dont want to reproduce the EXACT patch.. i just hear it as one of many similiar sounds i hear often... that seem to be kindof classic dark bass but that i cant reproduce at all

i can't seem to find the patch again, i know it was mostly spectral waves...

the goal is to have something that sounds metallic, hollow...

they kinda come down to the same thing imo...

Heres a thought tho : ever since ive been exploring with these, i hear coki's music with a different ear... he has very diverse bass textures...

they often end up holding the same space in his tunes, and being processed the same (kinda like in this post), but his patches are actually not what i heard them to be the first few weeks i got into his tunes..

just make any patch that's metallic, really,

considering Coki uses Reason you should probably try that (subtractor specifically)

heres the closest I could get to Lucifer at least cause its a really simple bass sound. the original still has a strange attack on the wobbles that I can't quite replicate but also maybe it sounds squirlier cause my copy is clearly ripped off a dubplate. maybe messing around with the body of the scream a bit more

That's a sweet bassline. Not really my thing but I'm impressed; never seen anyone get close to that sound.

Will you be releasing a .KSD? :corndance:

Or the albino equivalent?
