Sample anything and everything... I went through loads of my old skateboarding footage a while back and got some lovely snaps and pops. There's some video somewhere of Mistabishi where he uses basketball and football samples for his drums.

Get a drum sample you like. Run a basic loop of it through an insane effects chain (like just go f^cking nuts with random choices) and bounce out a few of them. Chop the sample up and layer the processed kick back with the clean kick. EQ to taste. Repeat ad infinitum.

LOL, there's a series of "household percussion" samples available on this site for free...

They're actually really useful. Used them loads.

1. Get DISPOSABL-ish PC Microphone
2. Plug Mic into laptop
3. Walk down road, hit garbage bins, rails, small children, homeless folk, puppies, ect with mic.
4. Leave audacity's record on until you get home...
5. Consider everything from your footsteps to the yipping puppy a sample.

Word, or get yourself a dictaphone - much more portable than a laptop.
