hi there
I have a question on sidehain compression. So, i know that normally the compressor, when used normally should be placed first in the FX chain. But know i wanna sidechain my sub to the kick, so where should i put the unit that does the sidechain. I reckon that if i want it to duck out completely then last, and if i just want it to leave some space i could place it first, but i really dont know. What are your thoughts on this?

Well, i think i know what the concept in sidechaining is. What i wanted to know was where to place the sidechain unit in the FX chain, and this didnt really help me to be honest.

simple: do you wanna get your sound, and then sidechain that whole thing, or do you want to affect the sound of the already-sidechained material?
experiment.

Yeah i figured that that was what it pretty much came down to. But theres no pros and cons or anything? I guess i'll just follow my ears then. The reason i am asking is, if theres one thing i learned then it is that you gotta watch those low frequencies man. We dont want any clashes down there.

Sidechain last.
The whole point is to duck the sound. And if you're ADDING sound after the ducking, then you've defeated yourself. You already knew the answer.
