Sidechaining oneself?

Post by DjTrainWreck » Wed Jun 09, 2010 12:12 pm

I have a feeling there is a better title for this thread but i dont know what to call it, i dont even know how to explain it so im going to say what the problem is straight up. I have a long 808 drum and i want it to stop when it hits again so it doesnt sound distorted. How can i make it so only one hit plays at a time in FL studio? thanks guys. Let me know if you dont understand what im tryin to say ;)

It's usually called Retrig on a sampler.

It could also be called Gate mode.

You could also just set the polyphony to 1 (indirectly making it mono).

Sidechaining oneself, sounds kinky.

right click the sampler, and then click cut itself.

Right click on the tab with the sample name on it, then select 'cut itself'. I do it on every sample pretty much, keeps things tighter.

Alright smarty pants, u missed this one. When you allow a signal's own amplitude to determine the amount of compression, rather than a secondary signal's amplitude, you do just have regular old compression. DON'T KNOW WHY I HAD TO CLEAR THAT UP.

cut itself is on the channel right click!!! I've been going out to the sample panel, and going to the misc tab for... years and years.
