MOTU DP 4.6 sidechain question

Post by -[2]DAY_- » Wed Aug 18, 2010 7:39 pm

Hello, forum.
I recently made an upgrade from 2004 mac powerbook G4 running Reason 4 to a newer Power Mac G5 with MOTU DP 4.6

I have a bunch of UAD plugins including some great compressors, but I cannot figure out how to use sidechaining with any of them. I have looked all over for a solution and figured I probably don't have the right stuff to do this with. My hope is to get my basses to pump with my kick drum pattern, for vocals to reduce the gain on guitars, and other "ducking" applications.

On my old system I grew accustomed to using a send from my kick into the sidechain of the bass's mClass compressor. But now that I have a DAW, I am tracking all my instruments separately. Of course I could track my bass while the kick is triggering its sidechain and simply mute the drum channel; however, I am no longer relying on Reason for all my sounds and I need to learn how to achieve this in my host DAW with audio from other sources.

Also, when i track my Reason bass with a muted trigger on the sc, I can no longer control the depth or length of its pumping afterwards... this is a bummer when i want to alter the effect.

Anyone familiar with MOTU digital performer or the UAD plugs.... please let me know if you have any suggestions or resources.

thnx
