Sound design question?

Post by th@-pu$$y » Tue Dec 07, 2010 12:08 am

I know I'm gonna get ripped a new one for asking this, fuck it I guess. I'm good in massive but there is a sound that I've been hearing. It's one of the coolest sounds I've ever heard but just cant seem to nail it down. Any help would be great. @ 0:44

This ones simples! The one what sounds higher - right?

Thats res-automation or increasing the wobbles threshold more than the other hits.

Nothing wrong with that tune through! If the low pass was a bit lower - it would sound like something caspa was doing in the early days,.

Instead of automating a synths LFO, see if your daw has pre-built automation shapes (like FL does) and automate the filter(s) in your chosen synth with those! SO much more control.

I'm not sure I quite understand. I'm in ableton 8. Is it possible to get a more detailed explanation or screenshot or something of that nature. I'm really interested in learning how to do this.

Ooh tasty. I aint got anything constructive to say but that's a nice tune XD Never listened to Downlink before but I might have to look some shit up if it's like that..sounds like caspa and 501 had a baby and it was adopted by Datsik...

Downlink has brilliant sound clarity, which is quite enjoyable.

sounds like massives acid filter with the res turned all the way up
also sounds like it has about 10 different voices. maybe a bit of detuning? (a tiny bit)

Not even close. The closest I've gotten is by using 2 square waves detuned by one Oct. Then routing to filter 1 and automating the cutoff and scream to the lfo env. The legato trigger is turned on and voicing is 16/3. The mod lfo has slight ring mod assigned to the higher oct square wave. But this sounds only even slightly like the one I'm going for. It's driving me nuts, everyone's like its a super easy sound to make. but nobody has a working formula :u:

Coincidence, was listening to this at the weekend thinking how clear and sharp the bass is, and what sick modulation Downlink gets, his tunes just get huger and huger...

Really feeling 'Emergency' on the same EP... my mate almost threw up when I hit him with that.

Big up the Downlink.
