Resampling question (Reason)
Anyone know why when i bounce my synth and load into an XT its around 5 times quieter and weaker than when played straight from the synth?
Re: Resampling question (Reason)
I'm not sure but i'd say cuz the wav isn't normalized and/or the default volume on the XT isn't on max.
Re: Resampling question (Reason)
No the default isnt max'd out, always at 100 not 127.
Would it have anything to do with velocity?
I havent tried, but it just sprang to mind.

Re: Resampling question (Reason)
normalize the sample in the sample editor, then on the nx-xt in the velocity section on the left turn the level to 0% (default is 60%). This nearly levels the volume out. Dont know why it does it though, iv noticed it before but dont tend to sample much anyway.
Re: Resampling question (Reason)
Well really you want the velocity turned all the way to the right surely? Thats what i do with my drum kits, then you have total control of velocity in the piano rollSinisterbeats wrote:normalize the sample in the sample editor, then on the nx-xt in the velocity section on the left turn the level to 0% (default is 60%). Yeah i think you're right about the velocity.
Never really tried this either, i just didnt bother with it and just turned up the volume

what sinister meant is when the velocity is at 0% it always hits original volume.
When on 100% and with 100 velocity it should be same volume i think

You can turn it up with the amp envelope gain in the bottom right. That lets you set the volume for each individual sample.
Re: Resampling question (Reason)
Cheers people, i'll play about with these suggestions, i dont really want to go whacking the gain right up to get results, id like to be able to load sample up and have it sounding somewhere very close to original.
What ive been doing is doubling, trippling or quadding the samples up in order to match it to the synth.

Re: Resampling question (Reason)
one other thing
when i'm recording drums with my keys i found that its best to set the velocity around 20-25%
if set higher then i really need bang hard on my keys to get the level i want

I'll remember that, i always draw my drums and i really ought to start using my keys a bit more, nice one.Project EX wrote:one other thing

Re: Resampling question (Reason)
i've never loaded synths into the nnxt but possibly because when you render anything from reason, its always quieter because it's not maximized.

The .wav comes out the same as the synthesized sound... If you maximize it, it'll be louder before and after bounce....
The xt just has a low default gain setting. At least on my version of 4... Also, velocity defaults to zero and i hate that, i'm always reaching to crank the knob to give myself some velocity control
I don't see the benefit of duping the sample to achieve louder volume. I'd be concerned with phase and an unwanted unison effects.
Reason bounces what's coming out just the same as any program, it doesn't get quieter. Just turn up your sampler, turn up the synth pre-bounce, or both. You could use mClass shit to beef it up pre-bounce, if you want Reason processing on your sample. I would rather stick my samples in the DAW and beef'em with UAD plugs then resample.

Re: Resampling question (Reason)
When you resample it, hit the edit button, then hit normalize. For anyone who doesn't know, that just brings up the level on the whole sample. That's what I do in these situations and it works for me...
Hope it gets sorted man.
