Reason 3 is Da Bomb

Post by HORSEFORCE » Wed Jan 12, 2011 8:46 am

i hate Reason 4 and 5. I want to install reason 3 again. The automation and sequencing functionality were way easier to use. I hate "Midi regions" and the fact you have to click twice to edit midi now. Vector automation sucks, i want the grid-based step sequencers back.

I tried installing reason 3.0.5 on an i7 Macbook Pro with 10.6.6 installed on it, and cant seem to get it to work. Ive looked all over the internet and cant seem to solve the problem.

no matter what I do, i keep getting this error:

"The Operation could not be completed because the device denied access."

I have repaired disk permissions, used onyx, uninstalled every propellerhead file on my computer and reinstalled Reason like 3 times and i still get the same error. I have looked all over the internet and havent found any help, not even someone saying that reason 3.0.5 is not compatible with my current system. only thing i could find was on the propellerheads website that said reason 3.0.5 is supposed to work on all intel macs. ... I am stumped.

Anyone have a clue what i could do?

I'm willing to reinstall my whole OS (my computer could probably use a clean install) but i dont want to go through the hassle if im gonna get the same error again...

could be a snow leopard issue dude... 64bit operating system. Lots of old programs have problems with it, even if they do run on intel chips

yeah im thinking it has something to do with the OS, but why such a stupid error? no error number? come on propellerhead, you could at least make your errors a bit more "googleable"...

anyway, i woke up with the brilliant idea of trying to install reason on my work computer (also an intel chip, 10.6.6 installed) if it works on there, im gonna reinstall the whole os on my laptop (it could use it anyway) and take it from there. i have this theory that because ive installed reason 4 and a whole bunch of other DAWs that mess around with rewire, there might be something strange happening with a line of code somewhere in another application or another set of preferences, not a reason preference file, project file, or the app itself.

i have done quite a bit of troubleshooting (as im sure most of us have) but this problem is just infuriating to me. Just kinda wanted to see if anyone else was a reason 3 fan or has seen this error message before...

back to the topic at hand though

So i successfully installed reason 3.0.5 on another machine running 10.6.6, so i know its possible.

now all i gotta do (understatement) is reinstall my whole OS from scratch, and slowly add programs i absolutely need for writing music. first on the list is reason 3.0.5 and logic 9.1.1 (maybe 9.1.3 after i check out some forums to see what ppl are saying)
