Re: Sidechaining
Sidechain compression is just like normal compression but with sidechaining the compressor is set to only activate when a certain sound is playing. I.e. kick sidechained to the bass, every time the kick plays the compressor on the bass activates and thus compresses the bass. The pulsating effect can be achieved this way, but there are many other uses for sidechain compression.

Re: Sidechaining
you can sidechain more than just compression
it means that an effect is triggered by another track
it means that an effect is triggered by another track
Re: Sidechaining
You see it applied to gating often which is like compression in reverse so that a sample doesn't play until something else plays.deadly habit wrote:you can sidechain more than just compression

Consider you have a sub - gate it so it's silent and then when a kick hits your sub plays so it has a big bassy boom
