Post by sqwuabblesmynig » Tue Jan 25, 2011 7:35 pm

alright so, i have no idea how to achieve this, jakedubber pointed out a few nites ago a helpful tip that i should sidechain my sub to my synths to make them follow, since then ive tried a few different things none of them working, and no youtube tutorials. jake who i think uses ableton, even tried figuring it out but we are both stumped and decided it was time to start a thread, any help is appreciated! thanks alll

You can kind of do this using the "Balance" (that thing that has left/right and voume) and Peak Controller inserts. Just right click the volume in the balance and link it to the controller.

Which FL Studio you using? FL Studio 9 or above you can easily sidechain with Fruity Limiter.
Put fruity limiter on the mixer channel of whatever you want to sidechain, then go on the mixer channel of your kick or sub and right click on the mixer channel of the thing you want to sidechain, then select 'Sidechain to this track'

Then go back on fruity limiter, press the COMP button under LIMIT, to the left of it you'll see sidechain appear, right click and select your kick or sub (it will be the name of the mixer channel you put it under).

Then lower the Threshold and adjust the ratio knob to get the sidechain you want. Sound confusing but it's really easy after you do it a couple of times, i always use it if i want to sidechain.

im using 9 mang, hmmmm okay so let me make sure i got this right, if i send all my synths to one send, put a limiter on the send, then go to the sub channel and sidechain them, then back to the limiter and the rest of what you had said, correct? thanks alot for the info dude, now im confused on which to do, use the peak controller linked to the volume, or this.. which will achieve a better flow/follow with my synths?

Or you can use the fruity peak controller, as above, on your synth channel and then put a compressor on your sub and attach the peak controller to the wet/dry knob.

Sidechain compression, is a compression method, gating is something different. Like the quote above says: use the peak contoller. Only not the wet parameter but rather the volume of the respective channel. [edit]Like someone already mentioned...;) Only addition = by adjusting the base parameter you can control the initial volume while not gated.
