Using gated reverb for percussion - tips and tricks
Just looking for some tips and tricks on using gated reverb, mainly on percussion.
Things I've found personally:
Use a very short release and slight hold time to gel a drum track.
Use a short to mid release to get the future garage stick sound and a shorter hold time for rolling hats.

time the gate so that it's working at some sort of rhythmic speed-- 1/16, 1/8, etc.

It sounds good.
Re: Using gated reverb for percussion - tips and tricks
I've done this just recently. My snare had a rather big/roomy reverb on it for about 5 seconds (way too long, obviously), I threw a gate on there so that just before the next kick comes in, the reverb kind of phases out of existence. It's like a reversed side chain. hehe. Created quite a nice, almost bouncy effect actually, which I quite liked.

Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Google: Hugh Padgham.

Also, SoS bit that touches on it (but page format is wonky):
