DSF needs a Sound Design board (not thread).
KVR has one, it's pretty useful actually. I know we have some more specific sound design threads in the bible, but we don't have a board where people can start new threads asking for suggestions on how to synthesize particular sounds. It would be much better this way, no clutter in one long thread, and it could lessen the amount of these threads popping up in the production forum (which pisses everyone off).

Well, if you want new thing, the best thing to do is to run a poll for a week and we'll go from there
.

in my opinion it's the same as with WIP's (though they've recently been decided to have a thread again). if there's a subboard you have a better overview, whereas with the 'help me make this sound'-thread (which isn't even stickied for reasons i will never know) it's a: easy to overlook for newbies and b: horribly cluttered. i don't feel like wading through dozens of posts to find something i can help with (which isn't gonna be much in my case
).

Re: DSF needs a Sound Design board (not thread).
I think it would end up being full of unanswered threads
Re: DSF needs a Sound Design board (not thread).
In the KVR one, some threads are answered quicker than others...and fewer not at all. But with all the interesting discussions that start in the good threads it's completely worth it. I'm sure it'll be moderated. I'd offer to step up to that task if needed (I'm always on here anyway).benjaminC wrote:I think it would end up being full of unanswered threads

Double post for some reason?

then what purpose would the production board serve? what piece of x gear should i buy and mixing questions?
the only times sound design questions get flamed is when they've been answered a million times

+ 1
Just have a look at the 1st page of the forum, there are many sound design related questions but the majority isn't so it definitely makes sense to me.deadly habit wrote:then what purpose would the production board serve? what piece of x gear should i buy and mixing questions?

Yea, what Deadly said, I think this is pretty much exactly what the Production forum is for. Would be a bit strange to remove that element of it.

Thank you.hasezwei wrote:actually making tunes instead of noisesdeadly habit wrote:then what purpose would the production board serve? what piece of x gear should i buy and mixing questions?
Sound design threads tend to clutter up the production forum, and Sound design is such a large part of production that I think it warrants its own thread. Like I said, the thread for Sound Design at KVR is more useful than sifting through the Production board for the sound design questions...or using the search function. The same people who say it doesn't warrant its own board are the same ones who I see complaining about all the sound design questions: 'why would you want to sound like them'?
...because dissecting synth sounds like riddles is fun, it works well over at KVR, it's a very informative board overall.

Thing is over at the sound design board at kvr theres people asking about U2, depeche mode and skrillex. Theres not going to be that much variety here. Most of the threads will be asking about datsik etc and people wont be arsed wading through to find anything interesting.

like i said the only design questions that get flamed are the ones that repetitively come up (datsik, skrillex etc) by people who don't searchDemian wrote:Thank you.hasezwei wrote:actually making tunes instead of noisesdeadly habit wrote:then what purpose would the production board serve? what piece of x gear should i buy and mixing questions?

i don't see why we would need another board, it's not like this one is overflowing
Re: DSF needs a Sound Design board (not thread).
I don't see any advantage in this either, it'll just create more work for the mods.
Besides, given how many people don't notice the "Creating The Everpopular Distorted, Midrange Bass" sticky, how many do you honestly think will notice the sound design sub forum?
This will only end up with sound design related threads in the production forum being flamed/locked/moved for missing the sound design sub forum and then ones in the sound design sub forum being flamed/locked for ignoring the "Creating The Everpopular Distorted, Midrange Bass" thread.

The threads aren't 'clutter' they're relevant questions to production, I see these threads on a near daily basis too but I don't call them clutter because they aren't getting in the way of anything more relevant, as the word 'clutter' would imply, since they ARE relevant.
