Re: Question on mastering (Reason 5)
You're in the wrong section mate. It's clearly labelled.
Re: Question on mastering (Reason 5)
Well I can't see anywhere else to place it, I'm not asking for a review, I'm asking for help on mastering and eq'ing.
But if it still belongs in the Feedback section then I apologise and would a mod kindly move it!

Re: Question on mastering (Reason 5)
Again though I'm just asking about mastering followed by a example to show what I mean.wub wrote:If you've got a finished tune for feedback, then please post it in the Dubs section - http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewforum.php?f=23

If it's makes it more appropriate for this section, I'll remove the clip and just take tips for mastering, thanks for pointing it out though wub!
Re: Question on mastering (Reason 5)
You're asking for criticism and advice on your track. Which is what feedback is :scarllawl wrote:Again though I'm just asking about mastering followed by a example to show what I mean.wub wrote:If you've got a finished tune for feedback, then please post it in the Dubs section - http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewforum.php?f=23

There's also plenty of advice on mixing and mastering about if you search, there should be a thread stickied up the top there called "The Moneyshot Thread", give that a proper good read through from start to finish as there is a lot of VERY helpful stuff in there. Pay special attention to anything said by 'Macc'
By the way, the thing that you want help with is mixing, not mastering.
Re: Question on mastering (Reason 5)
Yeah, ok you have me there! Well I've change my original thread to be more compliant with the section.paravrais wrote:You're asking for criticism and advice on your track. Re: Question on mastering (Reason 5)
Does it really matte he's in the wrong section guys just answer his question
and well a tip - don't master in reason it doesn't have half the mastering capabilities as ableton what I use to master.. produce in reason mix it all down so its not clipping yet still sounds clear and sharp not the mix all over the place, then load into ableton get something like t-racks 3 or ozope izotone or whatever its called I've forgotten :/ lol.. and go from there also get some frequency analyzers etc. to see how your mix appears and after some experimenting you should have a fairly clean mix.. I mean just by loading a wav into t-racks or something it basically straight away sounds much clearer

Re: Question on mastering (Reason 5)
ya fuzion im not so sure you answered his question. he asked how to master within reason 5 haha.
but if your going to recommend another daw to him, id recommend record, since its cheaper and goes right with reason. it adds some more mastering capabilities and the new ssl mixer is great. but iv only dabbled in the demo..

Re: Question on mastering (Reason 5)
I meant more the fact that slamming an ozone preset on the master isn't mastering

Re: Question on mastering (Reason 5)
Mastering in Reason is not ideal but this is how I do it when doing a quick mix. I've assumed you have a good mix.
Play the track through and keep an eye on the 'clip' LED, make sure it doesn't go red during playback. If it does then turn the master fader down.
Make sure there isn't a mastering device in the song file (above the master mixer). delete it and replace with a single maximiser.
CTRL click (or command click on Mac) on the hardware device and create an MClass Maximiser. On the maximiser click on the 4ms look ahead button and turn the output gain down to -0.2
Turn the input gain up on the maximiser until the gain reduction meter begins to light up a bit. If this lights up on the kick and snare then you're probably close. If it lights up loads when the sub plays (and you lose a lot of volume) then turn down the sub until you get the kick and snare lighting that up on their own. This indicates that the drums are making the maximiser perform gain reduction, and that they are the loudest part of the track. I usually mix the track and then turn the drums up a dB or two. Compare it to other music though... and not just badly mastered (and usually over compressed) stuff found on DJ mixes
I tend to use maximisers very carefully in Reason because they aren't brilliant. I usually export every instrument separately as an audio file and mix them using another DAW (Sonar). The music sounds clearer before I've even edited anything and I value viewing the audio as much as hearing it, because I'm weird lol
I agree... the ozone is good and wave arts final plug is good too. Don't rely on presets though.
hope this helps
