PantyRaid/Glitch Mob/eDIT glitch sound

Post by FluidMoShun » Fri May 20, 2011 9:15 pm

I've been trying to figure out how the guys in the title make that glitch sound. Here's an example of what I mean, at 1:30 of this Pantyraid song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LGtLJDP1BIk

or at 1:07 in this eDIT song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nGT8VnHy34g

Glitch mob does it all the time too, but you get the idea.. It kind of just sounds like a turntable backspin, but it seems like its more controlled than that.. like a frequency control or something. Anyone know?

Thats just reversed and possibly stretched/pitched drum hits (those specific two were snares I think).

to me it sounds like glitch mob use reason maelstrom graintable synthesizer,
they also reverse and time compress expand a lot of their sounds.

Now exactly what you're after, but in terms of glitch hop drum programming I use this technique;

Glitch Drum Loops
  • Say you've got a 4 bar drum loop. Bounce it out. Now, stretch it so that's at 200%. Bounce. Now 400%. Bounce again. Now 50%, again bounce.
  • Now reverse it.
  • Do the same thing in terms of stretching the reversed tune, bouncing out each time.
  • Load all the clips into your audio editing window and chop the shit out of them. Make crazy fucked up glitch patterns into 4 bar loops.
  • Repeat.

Ahh gonna have to try this out, see what sounds I get from it.
Cheers for the technique Wub! :W:

Are you sure you just mean 50% cause that would leave it at 200% faster than the original tempo. Its a sick guide, I just don't know if that's what you meant.

yo.

so first, glitch mobb made their drums with ez drummer or something similar. they use ableton. for awhile they had their lemurs hooked up to effectrix and they had the parts already laid out in a sequence view. thats what edit does too for his live show. he will play his bass and such which is just chopped up audio waves that he has programmed the lemur to act like a trigger finger or such.

and i think they are just saw waves of diff types. i really like the guitar work on his prose album.

I meant as in 50% of the original tempo.

BLOW out speakers with glitchy riddims and dope bass? :-| You're right, we need more people copying Datsik and Skrillex anyways.

Almost 100% sure that the pantyraid effect was achieved using the VST "Stutter Edit." Sounds like one of the preset banks.
