Variety of Sound appreciation/discussion/info

Post by dublerium » Thu Jun 14, 2012 1:21 am

If there's a thread already covering this then it doesn't matter cause these plugins deserve a thread or two! If your not familiar with the plugins made by bootsy then go and have a look at them here:

http://varietyofsound.wordpress.com/vst-effects/

Thought i'd start a thread for people to show some love for them and to get some discussion on some methods that users find work really well with these plugins, as well as keeping dsf users up to date with new releases . There is a lot of feedback and content on the site but thought it'd be good to get some dsf chat going about them.

Every one i've used as of yet has done the job and then some, they sound great, they look good, they're generally easy to use but can be complex if you want it, and best of all; they are free. Hats off to bootsy :Q:

I didn't download them all in one go, just learning one then implementing into my tracks then repeating, joy to use!

Anyway i'll start it off; if you've not given it a go, go and try the latest release, density mkIII. It's a bus compressor and a really nice one at that. Have used the mk II in previous tracks and the mkIII on a current one and it adds a really nice character to my percussion used subtly. At least give it a go it's worth it.

I wouldn't usually rave on about vst this that or whatever but these are just bang on point and feel like people that aren't aware of them could really be benefiting from them so hopefully this will be a heads up for a few people !

I love these plugins too, but sometimes I wonder if it's a bit of a placebo because they just look so damn good. Better than most plugins that cost huge amounts. I don't honestly think that, just wonder sometimes as I have encountered that before in the past.

They are obviously really good, have won contests and awards and all and recommended by loads of people.
I especially like the tape plugins, like Ferric and the newer NastyDLA. It's a quick alternative when bouncing to actual tape would be too much of a hassle, or there's no more tape left haha.

Here's a thread about the Bootsy saturation effects and others: http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=235390

Yeah my bad I meant mkII. The mkIII has recently been announced, here's the article on the blog http://varietyofsound.wordpress.com/201 ... ing-grade/

@Wormcode their sleek exteriors do add a quality feel to them however I don't think it's a placebo, definitely doing good things for my mixes.

:U:

This thread.

These plugins are amazing, nuff respect to Bootsy :Q:

I mix into Density mkii as standard now, and I often find my self reaching for both the baxter and the boot eqs. All of the plugins are great imo.

Does depend on the tune but density is becoming a go to plug for me too, got a lot of love for it. Works well subtlety and also great for parallel compression, gives a nice flavour to my percussion. The boot eq I've started to use more frequently and the baxter I've only recently downloaded, will get some mileage out of it soon.

I've found it easier to use one at a time with these, read the manual, use it in a track, learn it properly. It's so easy to dismiss a plugin if you download them all together, don't fully understand it and it just ends up sat there on your hdd doing nothing. Thats just me though, enjoy.

Bee using these plugins a while, I find in a lot of cases the standard presets do what I need them to. I think nearly all my tracks from the past 6 months have either an instance of Density, FerricTDS, TesslaSE or EpicVerb in :P

As I said before I've been getting through learning these plugins and most recent two i've been using are boot eq and nastyDLAmkii. Both really lovely I wish i'd been using nastydla since I started producing, for those of you into that are feeling the plugins but have yet to give it a go i'd highly recommend it it gives some really nice delay textures.

:)

Just started using BootEQ to boost my mixes a little, probably not technically correct but it does it's job.
Also started using ThrillseekerLA.

Two new plugins this autumn. TeslaPRO mkii and an unknown plugin that is Bootsy's entry for the KVR Developer's Challenge 2012.
