$70 Motion Sensor set to shake things up

Post by alphacat » Thu Jul 12, 2012 5:29 pm

Saw this and immediately thought of homebrew controllerism...

Some folks are saying that this technology might even replace the mouse (let alone existing motion-sensor platforms like Kinect)

its a gimmick, but if its a gimmick that works well and isn't as overpriced as kinect so I'll probably give it a shot someday.

I posted it in the last thread mentioning this:

I want an 8-way fader where each point on a virtual 3D cube is a different track, moving your hands up/down forward/back selects the track that plays.

I've always thought that a tune-able Theremin MIDI controller would be the ultimate; this looks like it could very well make it easy enough for even me to implement. Wonder how deep their devkit is...

it's possible but implementing it would be a bitch
it would be a matter of passing velocity and key via what voltage and position a thermin is at
even with a dev kit for midi it woulld take a lot more circuitry than it's worth

Got mine ordered, looking forward to seeing what I and others can come up with using it as a daw control method.

Will do, but delivery not set till december. should be a nice christmas present regardless. I'm curious as to how much this will be integrated into devices to replace current control methods. When used in conjunction it could be amazing, I just hope this team isn't deluded like the xbox kinect team was and try and make everything controlled by the sensor. Plus waving your hands about for an hour is going to be tiring. Either way, it'll open up some very cool doors.

I hope they're not marketing it like the bloody Samsung galaxay s3.
A phone so intuitive that it knows who to dial by simply raising the phone to your ear.

i watched a lot of videos on this and one of them he shows dragging and dropping.. it looked difficult! (or maybe the guy was tired who knows lol)
however i really think this would be good for inventing shortcuts/hotkeys with hand gestures.
