Producing glitch hop?

Post by dotcurrency » Mon Oct 29, 2012 4:14 pm

Have any of you guys produced any glitch hop tunes? When making one, what should I start with? It seems entirely different from any other kind of electronic music. How do you know what synths to use and where to place one shot notes and stuff? I've listened to some glitch hop tracks to help with ideas, but there's so many different synths playing at once it's hard to get an idea of what to start with.

Just make it the way you would hip-hop tracks. Also only work with samples. If you've got a nice pad sound or whatever, sample the whole melody with that. The point of glitch-hop is just glitching the elements up.

So do that? Glitching is like second nature to me. I've never done a tune where I haven't glitched at least SOMETHING I think. But if it's harder for you, just write an entire tune without glitching anything. Mix it down, resample the drumbeats, melodies, etc. And then process those samples with stutters, automation, retriggering, slowing up/speeding down, timestretching, gating....

Thanks! Sounds like a good idea.

@wub I scanned the site, most threads in the production area are people asking for feedback, lol. Not to many actual informational threads from what I saw.

Might well be you then, when I do that it stacks all the threads in the Production group by number of replies, highest first.

grab a cheap audio interface, I got mine for $80 Australian, and that was retail and not online. plug strait in and record right into your DAW. Then play some funky shit to a swing beat and build a song around it. :corndance: :corndance: :corndance:
