Free Sidechain Compressor anyone?

Post by brigadierjc » Tue Mar 03, 2009 10:53 pm

Hi there.

I'm using Ableton Live 6 on PC and want to get started with sidechain compression.

I searched the forum and loads of other sites but didn't find what I was looking for.

I found one alright on some japanese website, but it contained a virus and wouldn't work...

:-/

Anyone?

Just send both channels through the same compressor, or better yet, don't, sidechain is awful.

I want to experiment with it and see what it could do to my music...

I don't think sending both channels through the same compressor would sound the same...

Thanks for your reply anyway ;)

Brisance man, i dont mean to bitch, but i have read a lot of reply's by you talking absolute shite. Every studio technique has a function, just because you dont like to sidechain, doesnt mean it sounds awful. Its a matter of opinion. Please, stop...being... a :o
I first give advice, then give my opinion. If you don't like it... don't read it. At least I am helpful to some degree.

PS: :o

best way to handle *ssholes is to ignore them. Most of the times *ssholes have links to their music somewhere. Just click the link, listen to the music, then you will see why their advice is worthless anyway...

to be honest man, it reads like you're giving opinion before advice, especially since the advice was 'here's a much better way of doing it if you HAVE TO'. Besides, let the guy work out if its shit for himself. For all we know, he might actually make something really cool from trying it out.
The first half of my sentence clearly states, that he should compress 2 things at once, which basically does the same thing. The second half states my opinion.

PS. While everybody else talks shit, why am the only one who gets pooped on?

I did not say it does exactly the same thing, but rather close, and less obvious.

Besides I am going to back away from this argument.

Erm... :?

I'm pretty new here, although I've been reading you, well the interesting bits for a while now... and I didn't mean to cause an argument at all!

(Mr middle of the fence here 8) )

hmmm I'm a fan of sidechain compression but I wouldn't mind trying this method out to see if it would sound any better.

surely this would just compress two channels and the compressor would be sidechained to fuck all? back to the question ; sorry mate i dont know of any sidechain compressors but you should be able to route the output of a channel to activate youre compresser, i didnt actually look to see what DAW's you were using but in fruity tis easy as pie
