Sidechain compression in fl studio

Post by bandshell » Thu Apr 02, 2009 6:55 pm

ez

I've been trying for ages to use a sidechain to compress my sub and make it duck out when the kick comes in. I've assigned a peak controller to the kick drum and unmuted it, and have a compressor on my sub and linked the gain control to the peak of the kick but when i play the tune the bass doesn't duck out it just stays really quiet all the way through, why is this?

Watch any of these videos tbh. The top one despite being in German is probably the clearest and best for seeing exactly how it's done.

You've got to adjust the levels correctly in the Peak Controller, unmute it, and have the comp's gain controlled by PeakC set to inverse iirc...

Try linking it to something else, than volume like distortion amount or summat, really fun.

fuck around with using the master channel as the input for the sidechain thingy. i was doing this the other day, making the volume of the master channel affect the pitch and EQ of a dub siren. e.g the louder the track is overall, the more mental the dub siren becomes.

hours of fun
