How do you compose a drop?

Postby ScarletCyanide » Sat Feb 18, 2012 11:33 pm

Okay, so looking at this song a minute ago and if you skip to 1:29 to the drop, I was wondering how do you compose that? Or is it the same note held down with different effects added?

Thanks guys!

That's a lot of synths and even more notes lol. At least 4 in the first 8 bar and then I lost the count.

Anyway, my way of composing drops atm:

1) Have various different synths (with different sounds).
2) Have duplicates of these with different settings (like, one with 1/8 LFO, other with 1/16 LFO, etc.).
3) Add bits, add automations, now it's kinda random.
4) Fixing phase. Fix it till it makes sense, throw it away if it's not possible (usually the case).

Composing complex drops is hard :dunce:

I mean it's not really based off notation it's more about automation and pitch automation
