Studio Monitors???

Post by shinto » Thu Dec 14, 2006 7:26 am

hey guys...what's a good pair of cheap but decent sound quality studio speakers??? i am a little scared to buy them used for obvious reasons...eBay doesn't exactly let you hear the quality over the internet...thanks

I've got KRK Rokit powered 6 inch monitors, think they were about £300 - 350.

Very happy with them!

KRK Rokit 8's (Also called KRK RP-8 )

Great sound / specs for the price... paid $680 Canadian for the pair after tax, which is 300 pounds, or $590 USD

I use Dynaudio.

As for "cheap but decent".. I'd pretty much recommend that if there is just *one* thing you save and save and save for in your studio.. let it be your monitors. they are your singlemost imortant tool.

Yeah I'd never buy monitors sight unseen. Or ears unheard.

IMHO, the best thing to do is go to a brick-and-mortar store to audition your monitors of choice, then buy them over the internet if you can get them less expensively. Some stores will also cut you a deal if you make them an offer; say you've seen a better price on the internet, no sales tax, with free shipping, etc, and if they can match that, you'll buy them on the spot.

I fell in love with these today. (Tall dark and intelligent, who wouldn't.)

Dynaudio BM15A or stfu :bins:

i have a pair of BM6A's perfect for small to medium studios

best monitors are made by either Dynaudio,Genelec or PMC

like said before if you are gonna spend money on one thing in your studio it should be your monitors.

I needed mine for video editing but they end playing dubstep most the time!

Random Trio if your based in London there is a shop about 45 mins south in Guildford.

Guildford Sound and Light

They have the whole range of KRK monitors you can test!

i'm currently using fostex, but i wouldn't really recommand them :(
in case you can afford it, i'd recommand dynaudios (but not the bm5s!) - if you can't, then i'd take a look at the yamaha hs80, i think they're a lot better than the fostex at the same price (€250 each), and there's also a sub available for €420... not the worst deal i think...

genelecs 8030a 's are good and have an accurate sound.. they're about £300 each. pair this up with their sub 7060a and its killa.. but total cost of system reaches 1k :(

Dynaudio BM6As. Absolutely fantastic, accurate and gritty monitors. You don't need sub to understand what is going down in the low end if your room is properly treated. I prefer these to the 'pretty' sounding Genelecs.

Get something that fits your room. Don't get too bassy in a small space. I actually had big, 'impressive' monitors before I got the BM6As and although they were loud and my mates thought they were good, they overpowered my room and my mixes were always shat.
