That's an absolutely fascinating interview. Not being a producer, I can't pretend to fully understand the stuff about techniques, but it perhaps explains one of my favourite musical moments of the last year or so: the way that there's a huge orchestral riff stalking around in the background of "South London Boroughs", almost haunting it. That always struck me as being very different from the way that sounds usually work: either being there or not being there, rarely somewhere sinister in between.Blackdown wrote:the first full interview with burial is on my blog now plus some sound clips of the album.
Can't wait for the album, anyway.

!!!!!!M: So you don’t use a sequencer?
B: No.
Still, reading but this but it's fascinating so far. Nice one Martin. I really like his outlook on music making and the comments about maintaining the slink especially. I do think (*covers head*) that there's a little danger of going the way of neurofunk if certain trends persist.
still can't get my head around how he can do drums in soundforge :S

Fuckin ell... man makes his beats all in Sound Forge. Thats sick. A mate I used to produce with used to put down ideas like that. And I swear whenever we put those ideas into the sequencer they lost some of the rawness and flow they had as pure audio. In Sound forge its just waves - copying, mixing, pasting.

Wicked interview. Really enjoyed reading it. Echoing all the other comments but a really top piece of writing!
I did my first dnb track using only cool edit. Makes the process a very intricate one but very hard! It's incredible the sounds he is creating with it.
