traditionally 'vip' usually refers to a mix that a producer does of their own tune to give to a particular mc or dj, e.g. them skream tracks with the "youngsta" samples on.

or usually referred as...
VERY IMPORTANT PERCY
Now seriously those VIP versions usually are insane, cant remember one that fails its purpose.
Suddenly, there was a terrible roar all around us, and the sky was full with what looked like huge bats, all swooping and screeching and diving around the car, and a voice was screaming:
Holy Jesus. What are these goddamn animals?

VIP to me is just a slightly diff mix for the producer's mates/big name DJs etc, maybe a slightly different version - there are plenty about which aren't 'specials' for one DJ (like the Chef special of Tapped).
Oris Jay has done some wicked VIPs (Rob One 7 springs to mind), and there's a nice Waterfall VIP on the myspace for 2nd II None - in both those cases there are just slightly diff basslines/edits.

That's always been my understanding. A remix done by the original producer.

yes mate, both on the LP. the Pop Pop VIP is actually a bit like the original was when it was first written - some bits were taken out of the original tune before it was released on Subtext, and they put them back in for the VIP.
The Lion VIP was just that (a proper VIP) for ages, pretty much noone had it at the time except Vex'd and J da Flex iirc.

That's a "special" not a VIP.
ThinKing has it on lock... not different enough to be a remix and done by the original composer/producer.

i`ve always wondered bout the Qawwali VIP though. always felt like a remix to me.
