Ya Ave a License Fah Dem Dubz?
i love rusko's productions, which is why i told my friend jan in leipzig that he was coming to play in his town in december. i got a surprising reaction from jan, who said that rusko had nicked a tune from his label jahtari, and that dub police had denied any knowledge when he asked them if the guy who wrote the track could get a credit.
now sampling goes on a lot, and i'm all for it when something new comes out of it, but i'm curious where the dubstep forum draws the line between sampling and stealing. now i'm not accusing anyone of anything, but to me these tracks seem too similar not to credit blaze dem.
what do you think?
the Rusko track is on the SNES Dub EP DP005, called Tru Powwa
you can hear a clip here:

the Blaze Dem track is called Dubness of this Creation and is available for free download under creative commons license here:

and here is a comparison of the 2 breakdowns in the tracks:

You forgot the stalking of threads, pointless comments such as "do you know _________?" and the PM crew.4linehaiku wrote:I think Pete Bubonic is refering to the fact that this topic will probably quickly devolve into name calling and pointless rhetorical point-scoring.
I'm afraid he's probably right.
This place is full of internet badman, carry-news antagonists and informers. Such a waste of time activity. Its not like its gonna stop you in your mission

I was going to weigh in here with an argument concerning the innate role that repetition and reinterpretation of standards plays within any form of folk music centered around a culturally self-referential and defining ritual of intoxication and dance- such as in the dancehalls of reggae, the concert halls of the western symphonic tradition and the modern day dog shelter dances of dubstep and country and western...pete bubonic wrote:in before drama and eventual lock and corpsey and feasible weasel chatting some inane bollocks.

Rusko should have come correct & credit Disrupt production.MungosHiFi wrote: now sampling goes on a lot, and i'm all for it when something new comes out of it, but i'm curious where the dubstep forum draws the line between sampling and stealing. now i'm not accusing anyone of anything, but to me these tracks seem too similar not to credit blaze dem.

Just beacuse they publish under Creative Commons doesn't mean that they do not hold some rights reserved.
To make it legal, Rusko should pay royalties, if Rusko wants to make it legit-Disrupt must be credited.

i'm not asking anyone to do anything, and i'm not only wanting to stir shit, but perhaps blaze dem and jahtari need to get some recognition for this, and maybe there's a whole side to the story that i don't know about, which is why i thought it might be worth talking about - jeez4linehaiku wrote:Yeah they are undeniably similar. Just not too sure what the best possible outcome of this is though. It's probably a bit late to recall all the records and write 'This track samples Blaze Dem' on them.

Jahtari kindly give their stuff away for free, or on their net label anyway
but your spot on the best outcome is that people check their stuff, its not about blame or pointing the finger,
the disrupt album is brilliant and there is an amazing set of tracks about to be released with Mikey Murka that are outstanding
