My ongoing mission to see Martyn at FWD>>
So, I missed Martyn's last UK appearance and will be damned if I missed another.
Me and two mates from Bristol jump in my car and we set off. Into possibly the very worst weather conditions (short of a blizzard) to drive to London. Road works and accidents ahoy all the way there. Safe.
Get to London and Junction 1/2 is closed. Safe.
Figure out a way round to find someone got hit by a bus (rip) on the A4 and a massive stretch is closed. No diversion signs. Safe.
End up back tracking for quite a distance the wrong way up a one way road because the police have put fuck all sign up anywhere. Woohoo.
Time starts ticking on and we are still only in Hammersmith, then after frying my brain somewhat with multiple diversions, the correct turning to Shoreditch disappears from Central London and I decide to take the scenic route.
Hour and a half later (4 hours now in total - with no food because the fucking KFC at the service station was rasclart shut) and we get to Shoreditch, park the car and rock upto FWD>> to find a mahusive cue and Sarah Soulja saying to the bouncer don't let anyone else in. Sexcellent.
Fortunately my number one bredbin of the moment Thinking blags onto the guestlist and we rock on in. Kode9 just wraps what I am told was a mind bendingly brilliant set. Quality.
Martyn however saves my night by playing one of the best old school garage and dubstep sets I have ever heard, straight banging it for 2 hours. The man is a legend.
FWD>> closes and we drive back (with appropriate stops for me to take pro plus, drink horrible amounts of coke and eat the moodiest sausage roll from a garage ever....).
6am rolls on and I have dropped everyone in the car off at thier house and I get back to mine to have a shower, iron my shirt and walk to work. In the rain.
And I am in work now.
28 hours without sleep.
Buzzing off caffiene (and I don't ever drink caffiene).
With another 4 and a half hours before I get to walk home. In the rain.
Bottom line is though, it was worth it. Martyn is a don.

Pete you are a veritable juggernaut of dubstep love. Many thanks for the lift back to Bristle mate, I hope I didn't snore.
Martyn was absolutely unbelievable, such a fantastic set. I would love to be able to catch him down at Fabric tonite - anyone that can reach should definitely be attending (plus Shackleton's on too!!).
this is exactly what I'm about to make myself to shake off this horrendous hangover.

haha thats a crazy mission! martyn did play probably the best dubstep set ive heard so far though, just fucking killed it for two hours straight. did anyone else see him wrestling with kode 9 and two other guys to not wheel up a tune, only for someone in the audience to lean over and stop it? was jokes.
The thing is you CANT drop Classic Delux pt 1 at FWD>> and not expect a wheel. When Dusk and I heard it come in we began our SAS mission from the back of the dancefloor, sprinting through the densely packed crowd, converging on the booth at speed. Unfortunately Martyn's a big guy and all the two of us could do was hold him back.linear wrote:haha thats a crazy mission! martyn did play probably the best dubstep set ive heard so far though, just fucking killed it for two hours straight. did anyone else see him wrestling with kode 9 and two other guys to not wheel up a tune, only for someone in the audience to lean over and stop it? was jokes.
Luckily, completely independently to us, Mr 9 had begun his run from even further back (by the entrance/stairs in Plastic People). As we had Martyn pinned down, he arrived in fine style (
I tend to avoid trying to rush the DJ, but quite frankly we were provoked by quite pisstake, next level DJing. Honestly Your Honour, it was self defence! The DJ made me do it.
Seriously though, Martyn's set was amazing, taking a techno, groove-lead approach, slick mixing and ripping across multiple genres and eras. Honourable mentions go to Abstract's "Touch," Wookie's "Little Man remix," Martyn's "Broken" and TRG remix, countless Mala and Kode9 bits, Burial's "Unite" and "Archangel", Geiom's "Reminiscin" not to mention Horsepower's "Gorgon Sound" and aforementioned "Classic Delux."
Oh and finishing with Carl Craig's "At Les."
Keysound Recordings, Rinse FM, http://www.blackdownsoundboy.blogspot.com, sub, edge, bars, groove, swing...
Yeah out to Pete for the driving businsess
Out to the Police for the fuckup that was the road closures on the way there
Out to my map reading, we shouldnt have listened to that cabbie!
Was actually quite funny, but i can say that safe in the knowledge that i was the last one you dropped off for bed

Something quite funny just happened to me. I a fairly numb state I walked through the pissing rain to get a Maccy D's for lunch. Wasn't concentrating and stepped in a deep puddle. Upto my ankle. It was so cold and caught me right off guard and my leg went completely numb and I nearly faceplanted the road.
I need a hug!

that was an absolutely amazing night, from start to finish pure sickness
Benny's dub set was awesome, a few of the tunes towards the end were amongst the best dub i've ever heard, mad mad drums. and his new tune sounded deep, that intro
Kode9 was outrageous. first 25 minutes were pure psychedelia. that 2step tune which he kicked out with after the madness was an outrage, second drop was stupid, is that a new one of his? and is it a Mala tune with the "but strength, courage and discipline will win the battle?! sick sick sick. Please was a proper moment too, so euphoric
and what can be said about Martyn? such a deep one, so fluid and varied, 2 hours of pleasure, loved it from start to finish. groove is the word. second drop on All I Have Is Memories killed it
