Berlin - Recommendations

Post by cogent » Mon Feb 04, 2008 2:58 pm

Ez Steppa's... I'm gonna be heading out to Berlin with the missus from 16th - 20th Feb and need some info on the city...

I know there have been a few dubstep events happening out there but if you lot can offer any advice on what bars, clubs, or events we should check out, I’d be grateful... Don't need to be dubstep although that would be nice...

I can remember reading online somewhere that Shackleton is playing on the 16th but i cannot remember where i seen it advertised.. Anyone know id this is still happening???

Also any other info on sights or must see / do will be helpful...

Thanks in advance...

Dark beer is the shit. And the sausage, chips, mustard and a half pint thing WORKS. Talk english, trying to talk German when you can't will just confuse things.

Apparently there's a free historical walking tour group daily that is not boring at all, 4hrs, and an 8hr one which cost a few euros that will leave you begging for more even if you're the type of person to be totally bored by that sort of thing. so i've been told.

Enjoy the grafiti, the space, the cheapness compared to our rip off country, the fantastic availablity of recycling, great transport, and the warm and friendly German's with their famous sense of humour.

Watch The Lives of Others, and Belrin: Symphony of A City before you go to get in the mood. Listen to Kraftwerk. And the classic 'made in Berlin albums like ummmmm.... those Bowie ones, that Depeche Mode one, Liars' Drums Not Dead, ummmmmmm... there's more... Lou Reed?

Repeatedly and maliciously mention the war

Then tear off your england shirt to reveal a 50 foot high St. George's cross covering your beer bloated belly and start screaming 'If it wasn't for the English you'd be swedes'' at the top of your voice.

You cannot go to Berlin without visiting the infamous Watergate and Tresor clubs.

Watergate is an excellent venue, rated one of the best clubs in the world.

They mainly play minimal/tech house, but i know that Skream recently played there, so expect a wicked night even on a Wednesday night without any dub.

watergate is full of tourists and tresor is full of brandenburg hillbillies!

... of course, that's just my opinionated native perspective, and anyways it's all good if yer into that sorta thing.

If you need more record shops, there s also another really nice record shop called Dense in the Oderberger Strasse (U-Bahn U2 - Eberswalder) and there s also Oye around the corner, both well worth checking out...
Dense being centered around ~scape (Pole) and lots of experimental stuff, Oye being more for the cluby buisness.... loads of rare whitie mashup, bootlegs and the likes...
