Reason 4 into logic express 8

does anyone have experience of rewiring reason 4 into logic express 8?

i understand the basics and can record midi notes from the subtractor into a track but not the filter movements etc....

i have a fair few other questions but will wait to see if anyone other than my self actually does this!!!! cheers......

there are a few ways you can link Reason to logic...

the first is the easiest way,

open Logic first.
the open reason (this will bring up "rewire slave mode" at the top of the reson screen, on the audio interface)
if you now go to the mixer screen on logic, the top left corner go to 'options' the go to 'create aux channel strips'

it will ask you how many you want, and where you want them then to get their sound source from...
so in this case (if you want to used a kick, a snare, hihats, bassline, and keys part ((obviously use what you want)) there'd be 5 seperate elements )

so create 5 new aux channels, and set the input from reason (an option for reason will be shown automatically if reason is open)

input: reason mix R/L (click on the ascending button and it should sort you out...

now so long as you dont create a mixer in reason and plug all the instrument into the 'audio interface' in reason your reason sounds will output thru logic...


sequence it in reason
OR
create a new track in logic, 'External midi instrument' and look for the reason menu in the browser...
this will give you a list of all the instruments in reason open. this will also allow you to use logic's piano roll to trigger drum hits, basslines or anything you like...

okay thats great i have that down...
however if i do my sequencing and automation in reason etc, when i go to output the finished thing there are no actual recorded sounds in logic??

i am befuddled by this to say the least

its sound like you and me are banging our heads against the same wall.
I have found though, that once you have your midi notes recoreded into an external midi channel strip in logic(studio anyway) you then open logic's automation in that strip. Open midi control 1-63. You can then tweak your reason device and set them in your recording. The downside is spending time finding your corresponding controls to your reason device, and as yet, i havnt been able to label them for future reference. But i have not had the time to follow this ant further. As for using matrix or RPG8 in logic... let me know if you have any luck. It seems that as soon as you add them into the reason devices rack, you cant use the logic channel strip.

Honestly it's not worth anyone trying to explain it through an F'in post. It's pretty F'in hard to read something and try to figure it out.....Your thinking about it too much, just automate in reason and all automation will be bounced down with your final audio file.... The other way, automating reason through Logic is too time consuming, but if you want, it requires the use of the midi implementation chart which comes with the users manual, or it can be downloaded of the propellerhead site.

Routing the audio through logic and being able to use Logic's vast array of plugins OR snagging some other kinds of AU plugins to enhance the reason sounds....is dope.

Watch these tutorials about 50 times and you'll get it.
