Wear earlpugs
Just do it.
Was playing in bournemouth tonight and there were too many people just allowing ear plugs...I think I was the only one with them.
If you give a shit about a. producing music (commercially or as a hobby) or b. just enjoy sound (as 99% of the people on here probably do), wear them.

Got 'em in right now even. If I'm not playing and at a gig, you can be sure I've got my shit covered.
Had a gig recently where the monitors were so loud (and out of my control) I had to keep plugs in under my cans-- not cool but you do what u gotta. I wanna hear things in my 40s/5os/beyond!

yep... I got some of those alpine ones a while back when I noticed my ears started ringing more often than usual. They are shit for producing or performing with though because of the way it cuts out the mid and high range. Good for just being in loud spaces. Is there a kind of earplug that won't change the sound so much?
Yeah, but they're expensive as fuck.

Has anyone noticed that every big gig you go to has the high end up so loud that the crashes/rides/hats just sound like distorted white noise?
Like a constant barrage of evil for you ears, and not the good type.
What, do they happen to put the sound engineering booth in the only place you can't hear high-end harshness in every single club and venue going or what?
Turn the flippin' treble down fools!
Or do I still have the hearing of a twelve year old?

I think when you hear the treble up too high like that or the system sounds like its reverbing, which is caused by the system not being tuned properly.. It kills me to hear dubstep on a non tuned system...

I have ER-20s too but from a brand called Etymotic. About 12 EUR new.Johnny Beat wrote:Elacin ER 20 S - Come on, they are not that expensive!collige wrote:Yeah, but they're expensive as fuck.
Go for about 8 pounds on ebay with P&P
Not the best there are but still work!

I was used to the old Quies earplugs which basicly attenuate all freq and kinda kills the fun but this has nothing to do. You hear the music the same way, just quieter. You can hear people talking very clearly as well.
Seriously people, do it! I badly regret I didn't care in the past.
Can you use them with headphones?Daft tnuc wrote:I have ER-20s too but from a brand called Etymotic. About 12 EUR new.Johnny Beat wrote:Elacin ER 20 S - Come on, they are not that expensive!collige wrote:Yeah, but they're expensive as fuck.

If not does anyone know any earplugs that you CAN use with headphones which don't cost like £140

Yeah, obviously only work if you got cans on but near enough all of them will fit under. There are some that my work were thinking of buying me which were £100ish for the pair, moulded to your ear but they have little changable centres which reduce everything by 5, 10 or 20 db. Literally sounds like life is a bit quieter.
Oh and in response to the high end; I do live sound myself, and so wear earplugs...and i've noticed that after ive mixed it and i take the ear plugs out the cymbals are usually a bit high as i've had to boost them for myself to get a good mix...my bad

4 years? We are talking MUCH longer scale than that. I've been working with loud music for longer than that and I am starting to notice differences in my hearing. It's a fact, chose to ignore it if you wish but you will regret it in later life.D+ wrote:lol ear plugs are dunn outz

you're asking about in-ear monitors, which are well expensive. the cheapest are the in-ear sony MDR ones, they're usually like $30/pair here in the states. i wouldn't use them for pro settings tho.Lojik wrote: Can you use them with headphones?

otherwise, etymotic er20s and hearo's, which are super-easy to get here and cost like $12/pair, are the way to go.

For me, unemployed with no forseeable chance of a job on the dole, it is literally too expensive. If I had the money I would get some belive me, I hate having ringing ears!setspeed wrote:i have the posh ones and I always DJ with them in. no probs.
and to anyone that says 140 quid is expensive - imagine that you're 28 and going deaf. would you pay 140 to get your hearing back? of course - you'd pay ten times that!

Nah I'm always going to use my Sony V700's when playing gigs, but there ARE earplugs that you can use with headphones aswell. I'd never consider in ear monitors in a club, no isolation so wouldn't really work.TeReKeTe wrote:you're asking about in-ear monitors, which are well expensive. the cheapest are the in-ear sony MDR ones, they're usually like $30/pair here in the states. i wouldn't use them for pro settings tho.Lojik wrote: Can you use them with headphones?
