CRAZYLEGS (BRISTOL) with MJ COLE / BEN UFO etc 31.07 Thekla!

Post by djshandy » Mon Jul 20, 2009 5:29 pm

No holidays for us, we are cranking this thing right through the summer months to keep the bass ravers well and truly satisfied! And what better venue to take over on Harbour Festival weekend, than the good ship Thekla?! Continuing our recent theme of showcasing the hottest up-and-coming talent alongside legendary figures from the scene, this one's looking over fresh!

CRAZYLEGS
presents

MJ COLE
(talkin' loud / prolific)
http://www.myspace.com/mjcole100
MJ Cole is, without question, one of the most important figures UK music has ever seen. Coming from a classically-trained background, he turned the music world upside down in 2000 with debut album Sincere. Warm, soulful instrumental arrangements clashed headfirst with the rude energy of UK garage, creating an amazing, timeless LP that found its way into the Mercury Music Prize nominations that year. But today, like so many former 2-step champions, MJ has been really turning heads with his own unique interpretation of the UK funky sound. New single Gotta Have It is backed with an utterly devastating Funky Dubb, and forthcoming release AO feat. Serocee is a straight up soca-house banger. This set promises to be unforgettable.

BEN UFO
(hessle audio / 90 MIN SET)
http://www.myspace.com/freshben
The future looks incredibly bright for Ben UFO. His label Hessle Audio has been reigniting the creative fire in dubstep for some months now, with acclaimed releases from amazing producers like Ramadanman, Pangaea, Joe and Untold. Needless to say his record bag is jam-packed full of the freshest dubplates. But when you add to the equation a practically unparalleled collection of early UK garage 12"s, you can really see how Ben has carved a niche. Celebrated as one of the main players in this new movement of genre-busting bass music, Ben is guaranteed to bring 90 minutes of pure vibes.

GRIEVOUS ANGEL
(keysound / devotional dubz)
http://www.myspace.com/grievousangelsoundsystem
Hailing from the industrial metropolis of Sheffield, the dark figure of Grievous Angel has been making waves for some time now. Regular mixtapes blended the more refined end of the dubstep spectrum with forgotten UKG gems a long time before that bandwagon got crowded. But a new-found affinity with the raw vibes of dancehall and funky house has created a fresh sound for Grievous, showcased perfectly in his recent Crazylegs 002 studio mix. If you saw him tear it up on Mungos' rig at Monster Bass earlier this year, you'll know this will be heavy.

JOY ORBISON
(hotflush / BRISTOL EXCLUSIVE)
http://www.myspace.com/joyorbison
And last but by no means least, is the amazing Joy Orbison. Already being championed by the likes of Blackdown, Bok Bok, Ben UFO and Gilles Peterson, his forthcoming single Hyph Mngo triggered an explosion of label interest when it surfaced a couple of months back. Now signed to Hotflush, Hyph Mngo is only a taste of what's to come - this boy is going to rule the next twelve months with his unique soul-drenched, synth-led broken dubstep sound. Once again Crazylegs bring you a massive Bristol exclusive, and a pretty essential one at that.
