i usually prefer mixer for volume adjustment..
however, if you want to route several sounds into one mixer track (for example a fat layered snare), you may want to balance their volume using the channel window volume knobs, so you get a good sounding snare in just one mixer track

And while were on the subject, does anyone know ROUGHLY what frequency range to expect a human voice to sit in? My initial thought were top 2/3s of the mid, but Im starting to question that the more I fiddle with filters... As soon as I get the top end out I feel like something is missing, would a ...

at first the idea was to cover the classic ragga tune, then it turned into a two-part giant. not sure if it's dubstep though
