Re: 90% of the population thinks a DJ is "making music" live

Are DJs even DJs these days? A "proper" DJ would be scratching, cutting, crabbing and all that stuff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XW2e1kGyKcw I'd say I mix not DJ! DJing and Turntablism are different arts the halfway between mixing and turntablism that most radio hip-hop and funk djs d...

Re: 90% of the population thinks a DJ is "making music" live

It's typically thought by younger people because of the way the media portray DJs as people who make music, particularly because Hip-Hop videos put DJs into the publics attention and in that genre there actually once was a time when the DJ created the beats on the spot by manipulating existing songs...

Re: Route 94 - Window

Edit2: Also what's with the "20 year old" bullshit? Are you even active in this scene? There are tons of young guns that have lots of justified hype around them (see: Paleman, Happa). The difference is they respect and understand the history & context of the music around them while th...

Re: Techno & House Production Thread (Not for Feedback)

anyone have an idea about the chord(?) sounds in this that come in briefly after the organ? whenever i make a chord stab it always sounds weak or pretty bland, is that down to the character of the synth/vst itself?

Re: The Motivation/Creativity/Inspiration/Writers Block Thre

Any advice for somebody who gets literally no ideas to start with? I don't want to copy other producers, I'd love to be able to think of my own thing, but to come up with a inexistant unique style is impossible for me. All I can pretty much do is mimic... i know the feeling mate, this is exactly ho...

Re: Purple chord progressions/scale?

minor pentatonic scales + vintage/vintage-sounding synths

learning some funk/jazz licks on the keys might help you come up with ideas, "Purple" is all about having a powerful melody.

nah people should listen to as much music as possible. i don't see how it can possibly be a bad thing.

used to absolutely despise this type of music when people first started playing it over here but now i can't get enough of it, one of the best styles i've discovered in years. most fun music i've heard in ages.

i agree about the drums though, i can never get them sounding just right

Re: Being More Efficient In Coming Up With Ideas?

Hey crunked, thanks a lot for the reply, and I did read the article, but I think my problem is pretty bad and is gonna take a lot more than that to fix it. How did you start to be able to produce creatively? Like the guy above said, I have also improved significantly, and I can honestly say I am a ...

Re: electric drum sounds layered whith sub?

i absolutely adore this tune. by bassline do you mean the percussive part? if not, it's literally just a sub. the "wobbling" part is a 2 detuned square wave's layered with white noise + LFO. as for the percussion/melody thing, i'm terrible with percussion instruments and usually end up cal...

Re: Being More Efficient In Coming Up With Ideas?

Do you people think that inspiration is an actual thing? I know the concept is vague to begin with but I've always felt that for me there is nothing but hard work and practive. Sometimes I'll be inspired as in having an idea for how I want the track to sound, but this usually has more to do with me...

Re: Dark metallic Blawan/boddika esque Synths

And what about the man's drums? What exactly is going on with all his tops in Tuesdays march? it doesn't sound like rhythmically placed samples, but sounds so cool. All his drums have a somewhat live feel to them... transparent kicks that punch so hard. the his he she & she percussion is mental...
