Personally, I like to keep a notepad and if I hear about an upcoming tune or spot something online that I think 'crap, ive got to remember to get a copy of that' I write it down on a little notebook.

The very best form of promotion must be word of mouth, if someone recommends your music then it will get heard. Like someone else said, make a breakthough with maybe a slightly lesser known artist/DJ and if your music is good enough the word will spread.
