Re: Shonx - Canton [Soul Jazz]
Found this link yesterday and after wrestling with divshare to get all the tunes, made a .zip of everything and uploaded to MediaFire. Hope that's ok Shonky, am having a fine time listening to them. http://www.mediafire.com/?121th14ftajt8se Night Shift Anathema Warning Talking Drum Nihil Lament No W...

Re: tr4sig - just in time
Listening again now... "the bass is wrong" is way too harsh. I am listening on (small) monitors now, I think what bothered me is that they sound a tad flabby... an undecided middle ground between subby/muted and buzzy. Just being this picky because the rest sounds so good already. By the w...

I like it a lot, Wee Bey, and I don't feel melody/pads are missing, I think the eeriness is the whole point. Love the way the bubbles interact with the rhythm, and the garbage can sound is ace. The little rimshot rolls are subtle and on point, and the little voice at the end is a lovely detail, just...

Re: tr4sig - just in time
WTF... With this intro it really seems like it will be a good one. Love it! And then heavy kick with swingy garage hits... good good good... but why so much reverb? The crackle is delicious. Bass sounds wrong... is it the sound design or too much reverb? (no, it sounds wrong, not the reverb. notes g...

Re: Tylias - Danger! (ft. Route7) (Dubstep-Rap)
I think you need to balance it out better. When bass drops it's way too lound and drowns the drums completely, and before that there is no midrange. Vocal sounds too weak because of that also.
The cut and siren at 2:34 are nice and create drama, why don't you use something like that as a breakdown?

Re: Light Stories - Slow Me Down
Listening right now. Love the intro, feels like you drop into a tune that had already started (in a good way), voice sample helps build the tension. Not a big fan of the arpeggio. About 0:50 Drums drop and I think the pads in the background are really nice but not the grungy bass. 1:23 Mellower part...

Re: Tori Allen - What It Feels Like (aLr remix) (dance)
To get it out of the way, the style or vocal are not my cup of tea. Production is obviously polished. I know the vocals are supposed to be upfront, but even so I think they are a tad too loud. I miss a bit of variety and space, mostly arranging-wise and regarding the vocal. Also about the vocal, you...

Thanx, Climax. You mean beef up as in working on the bass sound, or you think bass needs to be louder?Climax wrote: Jus work on the arrangement and maybe beef up the bass a little bit

Thank you, Wub, nice to know the vocal sounds good, it's the main thing... worked on this for so long now, many many versions, so it is hard to know what is what.
Now let's make this much shorter.

That's what I'm looking for. I won't be angry. Except at myself. Have a go! http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=246543MKRUGGER wrote: Most people can't take criticism well either.. So I know there'd be some people getting angry, as I am highly critical.

Hi there,
It's way too long, obviously, arrangement very messy. But there's a vocal sample there that I really like.
What should I keep and what should I discard? How's the mixdown? Be cruel.
Thanks in advance DSFers.

Re: Feedback/Constructive criticism please: burnz (Dubstep)
There is something really strange with the mixdown, I don't know if you are sidechaining everything to the bass, but I think most of the times the drums are getting drowned and the midrange synths are way too loud. I feel there needs to be more restraint: there are some nice arpeggios, but they seem...

Re: Kronos One - Parastroyka!
I think the 4x4 plus orchestra plus gremlin is fun, but when it goes into evilstep mode it ruins it for me.
When the bass comes I know is supposed to be in front, but I feel that it's ducking the whole tune and the orchestral element, which is the most interesting part for me.
As well as the gremlin.

Re: OnlyBoots - I Accidentally (Heavy Dubstep/Grime)
I like the surprising melodic feel, as the sounds and rhythms that you use make you expect some tearout. The trancy breakdown felt like something unexpected also. Regarding drums and bass sound design, they are competent, but I have heard the sound/patterns many many times and better. Mixdown: I thi...

Thank you for you comment also. Yes, there is a long long way to go with the mixing... Anything that striked you as a main point of suckiness? Any tips?

Re: House -Ish?
I think the house-ish beat is not enough to make it not sound like many, many other better-produced tracks. Either you up your production game and fight at their level, or search a different path where the comparison is not so obvious.

Re: Monowàn - Badmaths (UK Funky-ish)
Actually, the bassline as you have it in the end is quite nice... the wobwob is killing it, in the bad sense of killing it.
