Re: Weird dancy house stuff
This reminds me massively of a tune that was big that I can never remember the name of, but was very similar (wobbly bits apart). Anyway, big fan of that and big fan of this. Percussion could do with having another look at in the mix, seems a bit harsh at times though that could be ears in the cold...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@ terryfunk4life: zip song 15, I like this intro, its making me nod my head, I like a the simple sounds, staplers it sounds liek a key board. Also I'm into the funky time signatures, or at least the appearance of one, I'm not counting. The counter point is pretty sweet. I like whats going on around ...

Re: Production rant of my first track and it being 7 months.
I can relate to your experience. When i first started producing My stuff was very creative but poorly built. Then I learned technical shit and all of a sudden the music is often lacking something. I think this is normal in the beginning because it's so easy to create rules when you know a little mor...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
I want to say that I, and I imagine many others posting here, would appreciate some real constructive criticism. I can't possibly know why people post here, but I believe it is so we can improve our songs both musically and technically. If someone tells me that my song is cool, or neat intro, etc. i...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@LifeOfCows - I think the buildup was good I love that little synthy drop thing haha, that was unexpected. I like the call and response thing you got going on. I think there's too much atmosphere/reverb in the drop, it takes away from the crisp crunchiness. I also think that warping midrange stuff n...

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
so it makes sense in theory but I'm still getting peaks. I have attack at 0 and precomp at 15ms, release at 100, I don't understand. I've tried with both extremes of kneesSunkLo wrote:In Reacomp, just set the ratio to infinity and set your threshold at -0.1.

Re: The Reaper Q&A Thread
I'm trying to figure out how to set up a brick wall limiter at -0.1 db. I understand how compressors work, I've just never been able to figure out how to set up a limiter so that it will stop a couple of peaks from clipping without compression the rest of the mix. For example let's say the mix rides...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@ Mannyyyyy: I really enjoyed the intro, I like how it went all over the place and how it changes tempo. Midrange is farther forward than drums, might need to drop the levels on it to get the drums more forward. Also the drop is pretty repetitive, I think it needs more variation. Whatever is switchi...

Re: Techno & House Production Thread
Another trick for getting that lo-fi quality for your techno tracks is to bitcrush your reverbs. This may sound crazy but I know that the Berghain crew (Ben klock, Shed, Marcell Dettmann) does this. If you think the effect is to harsh, try using heavy distortion instead. This will make your reverbs...

Re: Techno & House Production Thread
With regard to raw sounding stuff versus to clean and crisp, I have found that when I layer drum samples that I've found from vinyl with the sample pack of the day, I get the rawness from the vinly and the punch and "power" from the pack hit. Best of both worlds kind of. Also, lots of laye...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@the other drug, the drugginess of the song comes off clear. I think the vocal samples should be processed more. Like maybe with pitch or some sort of unique modulation. I really like you change it up, keeps its interesting. I like hows the song sludges along, is appropriate fro the subject. I would...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@Turnipish Thoughts It's very pretty, and I like how the different elements float around. I think your sounds would benefit from some warmth, they sound too clean for my ears, like theres too much empty space. And the voice and the piano are very organic and natural sounding, and I think maybe warmt...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@BevOh I really like the midrange you got going. Not necessarily super original sounding, but quality nonetheless. I like the call response you got with the midrange as well, I think it's worth continuing. At first the vocal sample stuf sounded weird and out of place, but as it went on it made more ...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@BudSpencertron Idk if it's because its not mixed yet, but I feel like the kick and the snare should be way punchier. Also there are a number of empty spaces which I think are cool, but I feel like some high end percussion, more than just 2 light hats, , should fill those to keep the drive going. I ...

Re: List Of Members Collaboration // Collabs Thread
What DAW do you use? Reaper How long have you been producing for? 1 year What VSTs do you favour? Massive is the one payware synth I'm familiar with. Otherwise I don't care. I'll use what works. What artists/labels would you say most clearly reflect your sound? Don't really sound like anything in p...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *
@ cubicle, the birds chirping could be chopped up more so it seems more random then an audio loop. The key the song is in sounds weird. The melody almost seems like it doesn't match. I feel like it doesn't resolve, which would make it more pleasing especially with something this relaxing. It kind of...

I like this idea. I think having a default list of preferences is good for each user, DAW, influences, current work, etc.

Re: Dubturbo
So if I am reading this correctly reaper is now only $40. Which is kind of blowing my mind.
http://reaper.fm/
EDIT: the $40 is temporary until reaper 4 comes out, then it goes back up to $60. I'd totally grab that over turbo whatever in a second. Reaper is wonderful.
