Re: Piano off Centre
Does this slight off centered sound make it unuseable? Unless they are playing entirely left or entirely right then I don't see it really causing much of an issue.

Re: how long did it take you guys?
Hey everyone, I have been producing for about one and a half years and i i dont know whether to keep going or not. My songs are what i wish them to be but i never make a good mixdown or master and I understand that "you cant polish a turd' meaning that the reason I dont get a good master is be...

Re: Big 'verb kicks
I generally just use a send. I have my go to reverb for that, which atm is the convolution reverb in FL. Turn the Dry signal off and the wet to about 50%. This allows me to keep the kick sounding how I want it but also give it some nice space if I feel it needs it. I tend to use this same send for p...

Re: Next production challenge...suggestions for genre?
I'd go for ambient. By ambient I mean something actually ambient. Not like an ambient style track of a dubstep genre or something. Something more like Microscopic by Gas(Matt Jarvis).

Re: Annoying filter problem (FL studio)
You could have just automated the master volume. Then again I tend to keep my master channel completely clean.
On a side note, in case anyone who uses FL doesn't know how to do this.

Re: anyone here Copyright law savvy? $150,000 fine threat
Not really sure of the legal aspect, however seeing as its on topic thought I'd post the Liam Howlett sample story "Climbatize" samples a horn riff from "The Horn Track" by Egyptian Empire, the stage name of electronic musician Tim Taylor. The main drum loop was sampled from &qu...

Re: Which MIDI Keyboard do you use
I use an Oxygen25. Actually, let me rephrase that. I bought an oxygen25 so I could set it on my desk and look at it. This is what I actually use.

Re: What are the bass waves in sample packs used for
A granulizer can also be used in place of a sampler. I do that a lot. Care to develop? A granulizer works a lot like a sampler. You load your waveform into it, whatever that might be. I think the Fruity Granulizer accepts most lossless formats as well as MP3. I'm not going to go into the specific o...

Re: What are the bass waves in sample packs used for
Put them in a sampler. Once they are in your sampler you can open the piano roll on that and use it like an instrument. You might have to change it's pitch. Sometimes they come in D or A and I just pitch shift them to C so I know that no matter what key I press it will be playing the note I want. A ...

Re: Sonar X1, Reaper or Studio One 2
I'm surprised no one has said much about Sonar. I played around with Sonar when it was in it's beta stage. Even then it was actually pretty solid. The layout is nice. It's quite easy to use. It was a rather pleasant experience as a whole. It had some issues but none of them were really off putting o...

Re: has it become?
The issue is pretty simple. Dubstep is extremely popular. One particular style of the genre has pretty much become mainstream for now. What you see now is an influx of young, in some cases very young, wannabe producers that haven't realized just how hard and how much time this shit takes. The fact t...

Re: The future of piracy
I don't think I've pirated music in years. Now that I pay for a program like spotify I really have no reason to. Spotify and streaming services are like a new form of piracy that benefits a corporation, not labels or artists or record shops. They pay the artists crumbs if they are lucky, labels hav...

Re: The future of piracy
I don't think piracy is just to do with price. A lot of times piracy can be about availability and accessability as well. With the release of a program like Steam piracy on games declined. Granted not by a huge margin but it did see a decline. When things like itunes and beatport went online a lot o...

Re: Vocal Sampling Tips
Also look for online soundboards. People have created tons of soundboards for all sorts of movies with catch phrases and interesting quotes. As far as picking them out, that's going to be entirely up to you. You're really the only one who knows what you are making and what will work with it.

Re: what do you do when u can't be arsed to produce
I just don't. There was a point in time where I would try to force myself through those periods and all I did was find my self getting increasingly frustrated. At that point I'm not learning anything. I'm not making anything worth a damn. In the end all I have to show for it is a slightly higher blo...

Re: August 48 Hour Competition Winner: JBE/Noktrnal
A bit off topic but oh well. I'll probably have to go back to using Twisted Psykie since I just received an email asking me to stop using the name Noktrnal. Which kinda sucks cause I liked it and it kinda suited my music. I didn't realize someone was already using it cause when I searched it on goog...

Kendrick Lamar - Swimming Pools http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pe0n5mqkf6c I'm not really into hip-hop anymore aside from a few select artists I pay attention to. However, I've probably been listening to this song for a good month now. It's in one of my playlists I listen to quite a bit and it alway...

I don't really frequent the forum as much as I used to. Mainly because a lot of the information that's being passed around is stuff I've already heard or learned for myself. Now a days I spend a lot of my time trying to put it to use and DSF really distracts me. I don't upload tracks like I used to ...

Re: August 48 Hour Competition Winner: JBE/Noktrnal
JBE, that tune is amazing! Good job! Thanks man, I appreciate that. I definitely need to do better mixing on it at some point. I'm hearing a lot of distortion and clipping on it that I don't like. I'll have to step in next time to prevent the 3-fer. I guess I'll have to try and step things up a bit...

Re: August 48 Hour Competition FINALS VOTE NOW by posting!
The moment you switched to a post voting system not only did the number of entries drop but so did the votes... Maybe it has something to do with people not feeling comfortable voting for themselves openly as they don't want to seem overly confident or a bit egotistical. Some users (myself included...
