Re: [noob shit] recommend a producer

Prospecta and Goojah have slipped to the top of my list recently. 'Pop it Off' and 'Wickerman' are making the right noises for me. DJ Mush and Magic Mash are up there somewhere Fabian and (dare i mention) Borgore and Tomba have released some tasty numbers Goth Trad and Peverelist are two artists i'd...

Re: FL Memory Usage

memory saving tips in fruity loops: -use smart disable for all effects except reverbs and delays (this can make effects kick in with a bit of a lag on playback and cut off tails - but shouldn't affect the rendered version). you can right click on the individual effects menus in the mixer to customis...

sounding nice and jiggy. some great sounds. but... pretty busy overall - a little more space to breathe would be good.

Re: FINISHED TRACKS FOR FEEDBACK-- JUNE 2010

Thanks for the feedback btw, hadn't noticed, I do love those kind of basses you were talking about been meaning to play with something like that for a while. Will check your tune tomorrow when I'm home (and not on a laptop ). loving the signature tune J-One. very deep. tight production. nice. 8)

insurance is worth it if it gives you peace of mind: https://www.jltonline.co.uk/secure/quote.asp?product=Laptop&promCode= i understand where you're coming from, but if everything's backed up before you go, its not necessarily the end of the world tbh. shit happens. usually at gigs. you'll get u...

Re: fl studio question

When you use layers, if you route each instrument to a seperate mixer track, you can eq and level from there? Dont scream. what A said use hi and lo pass filters. lo pass on the bass, and a high pass on the synth. depending on the sounds you're using 400hz might be a good separating point. lower if...

Re: synthesizer shopping, what do you recommend?

i love a good vintage analogue. wonky as $hit, loaded with DC bias, a bitch to use live (and big and heavy), and often difficult to sequence (if it's even possible with voltage controllers - forget USB)... but the wrongness sometimes adds rightness. I've got one of these: http://www.dancetech.com/aa...

Re: FINISHED TRACKS FOR FEEDBACK-- MAY 2010

Cheers for the feedback A-List. Imagine the bass sound won't be to everyone's taste. It's not strictly dubstep I'll admit. I wanted to avoid the formant filter sound for this one, but I do like my dirty noises and it seemed to work for me. Glad you like the rest. Nice vibe on your sig track. I'm lik...

@somatix and we bang. cheers - glad you like it - a rubber cone style overdrive did the trick nicely on the bassline  still finding my way with the dubstep tho - so your feedback is much appreciated. liking what i'm hearing from your end too - will check some more out when i find a minute! the...

Re: 'DJing' with Ableton ... your opinion?

its as good a method as any - it's certainly more flexible than the traditionally boring and unimaginative two deck vinyl set up - especially with some good control devices. saying that, learning to beatmatch is good for your skillset and the skill comes in handy for other elements of production too...

Re: FINISHED TRACKS FOR FEEDBACK-- MAY 2010

not one for the purists i guess. i'm a fairly recent dubstep convert - so there's a fair amount of other influences in this one. saying that it would have turned out different if it weren't for this forum, so i though i'd share it  It's a remix of a lovely ambient track by Input Junkie: http:/...

Re: Monitoring on Hi-Fi

so there's more to it than just turning the bass/treble boost down to zero? I thought keeping the EQ flat would remove most of the hi-fi colouring it would remove the colouring from the amp, but there's likely to be some on the speakers too. whatever you're using you need to rely on a certain amoun...

Re: Monitoring on Hi-Fi

If you have the manual for your hifi it *might* have a frequency spectrum map within it and you can adjust your EQs to get it as natural as possible. I like that answer. i tend to forget about manuals... the aim with studio monitors is for the eq to be as flat as possible so you can hear the music ...

Re: Monitoring on Hi-Fi

I'm guessing that would depend on the hi fi - amp and speakers - bass can be a bit all over the place on hifi speakers and very hard to judge for a big soundsystem. But i would say hifi speakers are better than no speakers at all. Between your headphones and your speakers you should be able to find ...
