eq8 and autofilter should do the same
eq8 has a lowpass and highpass setting, but maybe autofilter has a steaper (if thats the word) curve

you should at least check out everything there is in ableton,
i hardly use any vst's because of the workflow involved with all the ableton stuff, it just so fast
and abletons analog and operator are powerfull synths!

Beats certainly dont need hats, they can be very good for the energy though
my tune leek doesnt have hats
and there's moshpits going on sometimes i heard

THAT is a very good idea my friend

i tend to not use certain effects when dont really have any uses for them, but the collection i use grows from day to day because i discover more about them etc.
and everyone uses everything differently etc

i love how many people love the new insight on using it for automation, makes me smile everytime
