Re: Help me build my own workstation

Your priority should be CPU > RAM > Sound Card (assuming you don't already own an external). People telling you RAM is more important than CPU for audio production, or for any sort of data processing, are not educated in computers. RAM can't even be fully utilized unless you're running 64 bit window...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

@Dankstep - Good starting point I think. Next step i.m.o: leads. Brighten up your leads, add more leads, layer synths. Add some movement to the track, add some stereo width. Add some more hats perhaps, that one hat kind of gets annoying, and it's a bit loud. Pan them around. Widen things up. The mai...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

Replying @BaasDNB - Everything is actually EQ'd... I can hear the pads fine throughout the entire song, both on my monitors and my headphones, and in my car? I was actually pretty proud of my mixdown overall. Thanks for the feedback, though. Going backwards, sorry. @stranger_sounds - Yours isn't rea...

Bout to head to class but I'll be back to edit for some reviews! Take a listen if you'd like. Nero-esque Bro-step type dub.

Re: Finished Tunes For Feedback - Nov/Dec 2011

@Refuzed - I feel like the kick has a bit too much low-end in it. Gets kind of lost in my opinion. Snare sounds nice and snappy though, almost like a whip! Haha. Sub vibes are nice. :) @itsdeadpool - I think the main bass might be slightly too detuned. It kind of gets muddy and dissonant. Mix sounds...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

@pixelscum - sub is hittin' nice and big. nice movement to the bass. a nice hollowness to it. i like how muted the snare is, i'd sidechain your main bass noise to the snare, and let it cut in a little more because of how punchy it is. just a suggestion though, sounding good. :) @Congojack - a bit l...

Re: List Of Members Collaboration // Collabs Thread

What DAW do you use Ableton How long have you been producing for? Since 2006, on and off severely. I'd say aggregate amount of about 2.5 years? Dubstep for less than 6 months. What VSTs do you favour? Massive, Vanguard, Ohmicide What artists/labels would you say most clearly reflect your sound? I r...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

Rubikx - I'm not typically a fan of deep/sub dubstep, but I'm really feeling this song. The asian vibe sort of switches into a darkness, but shines back through every now and then. I love the feel. It feels very asian/japanese in the beginning but transitions to a more jungley feel, it's weird but ...

Re: Sub Bass Levels Problem

Alright, thanks guys. I figured there was something technically wrong with doing that! Haha.

And my setup is just 2 KRK RP6's with an M-Audio Revo 5.1 soundcard. Kinda want a new soundcard.

Sub Bass Levels Problem

This seems to be an issue for some people, as well as myself, but I seemed to have figured something out. I'd like everyone's input on the technical aspect of it. (If it's viable, or if it will cause any sort of problems later in the mix).. What I did to fix the varying levels of the sub was: 1. Fin...

Re: Getting the 'right' bass sounds.

As a general rule I find using real instruments and samples does not work well with using obviously synthesized bass sounds. You can pull it off some times, but for the most part the difference between the two can be too great. Equally using a squeeky clean lead synth over a disgusting wobble might...

Re: Active or Passive Listener?

I always am singing along to a song playing in a restaurant or something and my friends will say, "What?".. Because they don't notice the song playing in the background, where as I'm sitting there singing along or tapping my foot. I can always hear music, and it always sticks out to me, in...

Re: WORKS IN PROGRESS FOR AUGUST, 2010

anyways what do you guys think? I like the bass, and I like the phase on the bass, but maybe a little less on the phase? I like it when it's in time with a fill or something, it ... fills in the fill... sounds good. Love the percussion, just missing the kick a bit, 'sabit quiet. WIP drumstep style ...

I was wondering what is the easiest/quickest/most efficient, etc. way of layering samples quickly. I wanna layer 3 snare samples and it seems like there must be an easier way to do it than I am.

Thanks for the quick response!

I've been using them for about two years now, so I've got used to producing on them.

Would I gain any advantage with headphones though?
