Re: How To Make This Sound - January 2012
Curious how you guys think this was made. I'm referring to the twinkly synth line. You can go to 1:50 - 2:20 to hear it by itself. I'm thinking alot of layers and resampling went down here, but maybe I'm wrong. I hear triangle waves and/or lowpassed squares, lots of reverb and delay, and maybe some ...

Re: Help me make this sound...? (where's the old thread?)
Yea sounds like we're on the same page :4: But what I meant by the layering/resampling comment was referring to all the notes in the lower register. The twinkly bells are definitely one thing, but there's a chord or two slipped in underneath, with a few notes an octave down. They all seem to have di...

Re: Where is the noise? What a Noobish headache
Sound cant travel in a vacuum. Reverb, and atmospheric elements... if a tunes too empty no amount of mixing down or eqing will fix that, it needs an atmosphere. Start your tracks with the subtle atmospheric elements first... build the room, then write your song in it sorta. One of the best pieces o...

I don't have the Saffire 6 but I can definitely vouch for the Saffire Pro 24. Hasn't failed me in any way, shape or form.

Step Sequencer VST with Midi-enabled Steps?
What I mean is I'm looking for a step sequencer that features the ability to turn steps on and off via midi. For example, the ReDrum in Reason, with the ability to program the 16 steps to 16 buttons on a midi controller, would be perfect. Any suggestions?

Re: Sub a dub dub
Yo. I'm coming from a long background of instrumental practice and was totally going up the jazz alley as well. The advantage with electronic music is you can play back what you record and make changes, you don't necessarily have to play everything on the spot, and improvisation is totally optional....

Re: MIDI Trouble...
I recall someone telling me that the MPK series doesn't send data through the MIDI out port when powered by USB unless you specifically set it up to do so in your software. MIDI data is transferred to your computer via the USB port I believe. This helped me figure it out. For those interested, chec...

MIDI Trouble...
So I recently found an ol' Roland JV1010 that my pops bought awhile ago. I'm having trouble sending midi to it via my Akai MPK49. I plug the JV into a power adapter, do MIDI out from MPK49 to MIDI in of JV1010, made sure the channels are all lined up, and still no MIDI signal (there's a MIDI signal ...

Yea I feel like a cardboard box being put OVER a mic would provide for some good subby kick. Just got the go-head to record some live drums next week!

Re: How do 16 Bit make those crazy basslines?
Sorry I don't have any synthesis insight into this atm, but lemme just let the world know how FUCKIN HAPPY I AM for 16bit to come out with some new stuff. One of the only exciting brostep artists for me.

Re: Scuba's drums...
Yea I've been collecting field recordings for a bit now, but it's pretty damn hard to come by a "natural" sound that works as a good kick, I must say. I'm most interested in where he looks for his drum drums (kick, snare, general hats). Whether he sifts through sample packs, rips from viny...

Scuba's drums...
Are some of my favorite (alongside FlyLo and Instra:mental). Also, I suck at finding good drums sounds. Was searching Scuba interviews for hints on how he finds his drum sounds. Anyone got any clues? Oh, also came across this great quote of his: "So a DJ should be able to make people dance to s...

Re: Icicle's Dreadnaught Sub
Yea I think it's some subtle overdrive that's adding that extra sexiness. Reason's Thor has a drive knob too, but I honestly don't really know EXACTLY how it's affecting the sound, gotta read up on that. Yea Icicle's a mean producer, but sometimes his stuff is a little too crystal clear HD DVD-ey if...
