Re: reverb, mix "glue", wide bass, and white noise??
:W: thats an interesting thread ldizzy, def got me thinking in a new direction. as far as this whole "bass is mono it doesnt need to be wide" view is totally bs. SUB should be mono no question... but most pro dubstep tunes with big basslines as the focus have mid/upper sections that litera...

reverb, mix "glue", wide bass, and white noise??
im noticing that a lot of people struggle with giving their tracks a full/polished sound. myself included... :u: there are a few different things that im just starting to test out, that seem make a huge difference in the overall quality of a mix and help to give things more of a polished sound (assu...

n00bs vs unclear titles of the stickies..
just an observation but the stickies are not that clear to n00bs coming into DSF looking for production tips. on DOA they have a very clear sticky that says "Frequently Asked Questions and searching tips (read these before posting on The Grid)"... it obviously wont solve the whole "ho...

Re: Having trouble matching tempos for remixes :/
sounds like tempo isnt the issue.. its that the classic rock tunes like the one you mentioned are played by a real drummer, and as such they have fluctuation in the tempo and (lack of) quantization. if you use ableton, you can use lots and lots of warp markers to get audio like this quantized BUT yo...

Re: little neurofunk bassline tutorial i made
sounds good
i think is is based off info from DOA correct? i remember reading similar techniques on DOA but hearing the results you got with your version of these techniques makes me want to dig in an experiment. also like your "homemade" notch filter idea

Re: Everything sounds like shit.
im just getting past a 3-4 month bout of whatever this is.. writers block/lack of inspiration/everything sucks/etc. i think part of it is seasonal for sure... i really struggled at the start of this and tried to push my way out of it, which just made it worse... but i found a few things to get me th...

Re: Process for writing the second half of a tune
a simple way to format the 2nd drop differently from the first is to switch your hihat pattern, and change your fills. from there, changing some modulations here and there (if something is sweeping up, make it sweep down on the 2nd drop) another good technique is to add one simple element (like a ar...

Re: Bouncing/Resampling and Workflow - how do you approach i
one solid approach to dealing with adding sub after resampling is really just doing the simple "add a sine wave when you are done" technique. wait til you are happy with your mangled/resampled bassline sequence, then fire up massive or whatever you are using for your sinewave... then proce...

Re: logic vs ableton
might not have been clear in my post. im not trying to choose a daw. im an experienced logic user... and obviously both daws have benefits. i have no prob making up my own mind, just looking for some outside opinions and wondering if the grass is greener on the ableton side of the fence.. if there i...

logic vs ableton
curious if any dsf logic users have made the switch over to ableton? im dj'ing in ableton, but produce in logic.... i know logic inside and out and dont have to think about much of what im doing, but i feel like some of logic's workflow is completely retarded at times. seems like a huge percentage o...

Xrylex. Re: The Los Angeles Recording School
Have you checked out SAE Institude in Hollywood? sae? i went to SAE and would def recommend it over LA Recording School. (they are down the street from each other so you might want to go take a tour of both just to satisfy your interests) check out: http://www.losangeles.sae.edu/ SAE actually has a...

Re: Modulating Movement in Basslines
it can be done either way, lfo/wobble modulating before or after bouncing to audio. i think it probably just comes down to personal preference and if you are more comfortable doing the modulation in a synth or in a sampler. personally, i dont feel like i can get lfo cutoff modulation sounding as cri...

driving your drums with sidechaining?
sidechaining is seriously lacking from the production bible...so just spent about 2 hours reading various sidechaining threads after doing the dsf google search... i know the technique and how to route it, im looking for tips on practical usage in dubstep tunes. i come from an electro/hard dance/roc...
