Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!

@CYRHEN: First off, it’s a good start. My initial reaction is that the drums are too quiet and the bass is too loud without really being big, if that makes any sense... I would parallel compress your drums, turn them up a big, turn down your bass a bit, EQ out any useless frequencies in the bass, th...

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!

@Johnst "Duped" WIP Not a big fan of the intro nor of the mid range saw wave, it sounds weak. Sound design is really nice on the bass. It sounds far away but still present in a way, and it has a really nice "grain"/noise if you know what i mean. I think the piano is too low or at least not hearable...

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!

Thanks man, I agree about the drums - been trying to get them to punch through (they sound fine on the intro/breakdown but as soon as the leads/bass kick in they get drowned). Might try more volume/EQ sidechaining and some parallel comp like you said. As for the guitar, the acoustic is from a guita...

Re: WIP Thread - GIVE FEEDBACK TO OTHERS BEFORE POSTING!!!

@mthrfnk: love the guitar, did you record that yourself? The vocals (both the muted sort of speech and the high pitched sample) work very well. I’m also digging the bassline, it’s fat but doesn’t distract. I think in terms of the arrangement, this sounds done to me. However, now on to the mix (THIS ...

Re: Trap cymbal placement

I don't want to hear about how much you hate trap. OH MY GAD I FUCKING HATE TR- oh. Yes, that wouldn't be very helpful. :6: I don't care for it, but yeah I'm intrigued by the hats as well. This is what I do and it works well for this kind of stuff. Get a kick snare pattern first. The put hi hats on...

Re: Budget Headphones!

http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=67063 Big, badass discussion of headphones for producing. I personally have the AKG 240's. $100, sound great, awesomely flat, just like a like it. Very difficult to really hear sub frequencies well enough to manipulate them, but I think that's just a prob...

I uh... Was trying that chart seriously, but hten I got lost in making a melody with it.. But hey, actually, I'm really glad you're taking this seriously. You'll be fine man, I've got some mild hearing loss and some tinnitus as well. I now wear earplugs whenever I go out at all, even just to ...

Re: Producing at Work

@Alpha: I fucked up my little midi keyboard, and have been struggling with automation/creative automation ever since. It was awesome for being able to just attach things to the knobs, set a loop, and fuck with them to see what I could get out of it. I'm getting an iphone soon though (for free! yay u...

Re: How Long would it take to become a PRO??

I'm still in my third week of producing. I reckon 1 year to 3 years depending on the person :6: Don't expect that... Seriously. Can I ask how old you are? I don't want to sound insulting, but it does seem like kind of a naive way to think. While it's absolutely true that some people just rock shit ...

Bunch of slacked jawed Hi, I'm a homophobe in here, who the hell posted the green tabasco sauce? Hircine? Shame on you lad, that stuff is weak as hell  Standard tabasco for home (eggs and things), got a bottle of habanero tabasco sauce at work for lunch, currently rocking this one back at the ...

Re: ragga/reggae/roots samples

might be flogging a dead horse here but i've kind of rewoken my interest in using reggae vocals in my tracks. share your knowledge of any free packs out there! i've got this one pack with all the overused "positive vibes" and "haul and pull up" etc samples but is there anything else out for grabs? ...

Re: Finding Your Own Style

If you are listen to a lot or exclusively bass music. Stop. Listen to some other things. Make a lot of changes to your production workflow/experiment even more. Agreed. Although I have heard some very good producers on this forum argue the opposite... That you need to completely immerse yourself in...

Be nice, or you're just demonstrating how much of an arsehole you are. He is being quite polite, and took your criticism on board. From what I see, he is a beginner producer hoping to take it to the next intermediate level, and you had to push him down, appearing to me as though you were threatened...

Re: Is Massive Anything Special?

If you make wobble bass generic dubstep, Massive is the one. It sounds plastic. Yeah, I switched over to Ableton from Reason and started trying to get used to Massive. It can make some cool sounds, it's simple, but the "plastic" aspect is something I haven't been able to get over. I should start wo...

Re: Mixing/mastering High Frequencies

if i'm mixing a project, sure, quite often i'll dupe the lead vocal, cut out the "s"'s, and do a low-passed channel w/ them on it. mastering-wise, and to control stuff like 2k buildup on a female singer or lots of vocals tracked w/ a 57, i'd rather just use multiband compression-- select the range ...

Re: Mixing/mastering High Frequencies

it's also quite common to boost 15k on a dark mix that lacks brilliance, or just needs a lift. de-essing around 3-4k so that you can boost above it is also quite common, especially on mixes that are both too harsh and not bright enough. In case anyone (including myself) doesn't know what de-essing ...

Not really the right forum but go check out Crizzly. Well, I was aiming for more of a production focused discussion of it. I'm curious about the style of this stuff in terms of the musical aspects, which I thought we were all about here... Crizzly seems fun. But I'd say he's much more aggro than th...
