Re: How do you guys approach layering up your drums?
For better or worse: I have 5 drum racks in my current production template. Each drum rack has 10+ samples for each type of drum (kick, snares, claps, hats OP, hats CL, rides, crash) I usually just write out my midi drum patterns using single hits, then start layering up drums by copying the midi hi...

Re: Mix on Headphones/Pan on cheap monitors?
Make sure to match "gain" when you do mix your tracks in, id bet youll need to boost the signals atleast a bit to get the mix leveled out. Don't be discouraged if your tunes fall apart the first few times you play on them out. My first few tracks where disgusting on a real PA, now they are...

Re: Urgent Help with Mixdown/Processing Deep Sounds
If your looking for depth lay off the compression, lean into dynamics and soak shit in reverbs. That's what I would do if I was aiming for "depth".

Re: Can Someone Put This Bass on middle C
Give a man a Middle C, he will make a bass for a day. Teach a man to find Middle C , he will make bass everyday. Not sure what sampler/daw you are using currently, but you just need to play a clean sine wavs on any other synth while this sample loops, until you find what note this sample is actually...

Re: Mix on Headphones/Pan on cheap monitors?
I second always check mixs on a second and third system (even if its car/boombox). I also have that same set of headphones and have been using them exclusively for the last six months to do production on, mix and master on. The only feedback i got from another producer while doing a remix, was to ad...

Re: Anyone mix on Sennheiser HD280?
I have started to use these exclusively for my mixing, had to sell the big monitors i had when i moved. I dont boost/cut anything directly on my master (didnt before i switched to the cans either). Before i start mixing down on them, i spent a long time listening to music on them getting my ears use...

Re: DJing - Club Vs. Bedroom
My first set at on a real PA was similar, i had not mointors and teh headphones were not cancelling any noise on stage... so i kind of just sucked it up and learned my lesson, thankfully a few decent song selections can make up for the train wreck of a set it was :). Now when i go perform i use head...

+1 on taking a break. I didnt produce for a good 6 months, did some Djing but i just lived life and spent time with my wifey. Then a month ago, got inspired to work on a remix for another local artist. It reignited my flame and i have started 5 new song/bootleg/remix ideas that sound better then any...

Re: What equipment do you use live?
My Live Setup: - 2010 MBP - Tascam US1641 - Numark $100 DJ Mixer (3ch) - Novation Launchpad - Novation LaunchControl (newest addition replacing a beaten up BCR200 which sucked from day one). - USB hub + AC Adapter - A milk crate, which carries my gear and then acts as my laptop stand. That crates be...
