Re: fx for electro style mid range bass
U BETTER BE SCARED just kidding dude. if you're finding distortion to be too harsh and filthy, try using overdrive instead, or perhaps resample your bassline with very subtle amounts of distortion for warmth. to bring out a cleaner sound you might wanna try frequency splitting your bassline and usin...

Unfortunately I'm gonna have to drive about 4-5 hours to the nearest audio shop to check them o...

Stereo tricks
Saw some videos last night that opened my eyes a lot to the stereo field - something I've never bothered with much outside of panning hats a bit, and using auto-pan and ping pong delay in Ableton. I've only been producing for a couple months, so bare with me - I realize this is all common practice f...

Re: Exporting/Mixing Question
Well if you've got them all mixed down to a stereo file, normalize to -.2 or something and bounce. It's not really that big of a concern if it's being played on a decent system, an extra 3 dB isn't that much louder. sorry man i'm a bit confused when you say normalize. do you mean use the "norm...

Re: Exporting/Mixing Question
by mix i mean like a dj mix (mastered tunes edited together) for a friend to play at an event, and i'm just trying to figure out the best way to go about setting volume levels. since the songs i mixed are already mastered and radio friendly songs, does the whole aim for headroom go out the window si...

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
question about ableton's spectrum plugin:
why is it that no matter how loud i have the volume in ableton, spectrum never reads over -12db? how are you supposed to use this thing mix down?

Exporting/Mixing Question
So I recently finished a mix of tunes for a friend, and since I'm being paid quite well for it I'm looking for some advice on mixing down and exporting. The songs have all been mastered and I've been using Voxengo Span to monitor the audio spectrum inside Live. Most of the songs seem to be peaking j...

Re: difference between low cut and low shelf?
Right I've tried to make it as simple as possible: LOW SHELF / HI SHELF = Increase or decrease volume of selected frequency LOW CUT = Completely remove all sound below selected frequency HI CUT = Completely remove all sound above selected frequency Basically, if you want to say... give a guitar sam...

Re: difference between low cut and low shelf?
so one would use a cut (rather than shelf) if you wanted SOME frequencies to come thru either above or below the cutoff (relative to which type of cut you're using)? and if a shelf affects all frequencies above or below the cutoff at the same db, wouldn't it better to use a shelf for getting rid of,...

Re: difference between low cut and low shelf?
The answer can be found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equalization yeah, i've already read that. "A pass filter attenuates either high or low frequencies while allowing other frequencies to pass unfiltered. Shelving-type equalizers increase or attenuate the level of a wide range of frequen...
