Re: Confused about gain structure now..

Nah, it's a little known fact, flstudio uses different db's. The Belgians for some reason have an older legacy scale of db's, and Belgian coders often use that scale, and not the one used by everyone else. That is why music produced in flstudio sounds quiet and thin. Learn something new everyday.. ...

-turn up the volume on your speakers..

-layer your kicks

-get a good limiter and throw in on your master bus if you need to play it out before you can get it "mastered"..

Re: Super noob question about EQ (Ableton)

Thanks bud! I also have one more question about sends. Say I have two kick drums I have compressed and sent them both to a bus channel over on the right side of abletons channels. My two channels on the left are kind of high...On the bus channels to the right where i sent my two kicks. There is a c...

Re: KRK Rokit 5

i second any comments about treating your room before you get a sub.. i have the krk 5's and yea the low end isnt great by any means.. but honestly 9 times out of 10 your going to overdue it if you have a physical sub.. I would focus primarily mixing your sub with a nice pair of monitor headphones a...

Re: Random Production Tips Thread™

I find that spending too much time fidling with a sampler loading and queing samples takes away from any creative energy i have going into a session... so i second and third the comments above for just plugging in your samples via the arrange bar.. its easier and gives your sound more visibility..

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

raincoatdisaster - Cheers for the feedback man.. Could you tell me what about the mixdown needs more work on your system? Yeah the melody with the piano (I assume that's what you mean!?) I wasn't too sure about either.. May change that! Thanks for your insight on my tune. the build is the biggest w...

ascian - i love that atmosphere.. mixdown deff needs work. very cool beat and work on that front though.. not a fan of the bells around 1:40 but thats my oppinion. This really has the feel of a jam that could really build on itself. jris - im a fan of this.. love the dnb offerings on the board late...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

@bRRRz - Really dig your track.. different intro which is better in my eyes.. i have a feeling you may have been influenced by ruffneck bass on the build up ;-).. Anywho.. as much as i liked the intro it was a bit repeitive and long for my taste. Good work keep me posted on it the bass is nice @spec...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

@Dougriley - Cool little vibe going here man. Very tight and very in control. Good use of elements coming in and out which does wonders in maintaining interest. Really do dig the little funky vibe it brings out.. Nice hard hitting snare too btw.. @Darj - love it. The song has a ton of draw to it. Re...

@ideate - Very very nice man... very high production value on your tune man. I really couldnt tell you a single edit id make. The mix sounds excellent and it seems pretty tight throughout the entire song. I wish i could be more constructive for ya. Excellent work, and congrats on the release. @fused...

Re: normalizing in logic

when you bounce down a track logic automatically normalizes it, is there any way of turning it off? Selecting Off in the drop down next to Normalize. http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicpro/usermanual/Art/S09/S0947_TRA_BounceRegInPlace.png Questions such as these could be answered for yourself m...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

@raincoatdisaster : I think a re-think of the chords might improve the tune alot, the actual production quality is quite nice, apart from feeling a little hollow and the slight highpass(?) at the intro over the entire tune. Yea im trying to diversify the chord progression as much as i can to mainta...

@raincoatdisaster - Thanks for the feedback, it's very useful and much appreciated - I'm glad you commented on the atmosphere, because that was really something I was focusing on. I will definitely take your advice and try add some more different sounds to make it more groovy, catchy and less borin...

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

@Traffek -> Love this man. Although it wont exactly seem this way from my WIP.. I love subtly in a tune with a strong groove drawed out in the beat. This song has that. I would focus on adding something to the atmosphere in hopes to give it a more fuller listen. I don’t have my monitor headphones at...

Re: WORKS-IN-PROGRESS for JANUARY, 2011

@amphibian - Love the atmosphere and the suttle movement in progression in the intro.. Keeps it interesting. I love the fluid change into the meat of the song. Big fan of the synth around 2 minutes in.. Id add more movement in the breakdown after the first drop.. Not necessarily any new elements may...
