Re: Dear Ableton users, how do you make your drums?

I put kicks and snares on seperate audio tracks, grouped according to what they are. Then I normall use one drum rack or VST (i.e. XLN addictive drums or Abbey road) for cymbals and then another drum rack for percs. Sometimes if I'm going for more natural drums I just use the VST's (XLN or Abbey Roa...

Re: DJing with an MC

Don't EVER rewind at the request of a DJ, it's your set, just mix in an even phatter tune afterwards.
Also turning the MC's mic off is a beautiful thing to watch.

However the point is that if they are any good you won't need to.

Re: (DJing) Speeding up tracks whilst they are playing

Speeding up is generally fine, slowing down is a bit more of a bitch. I'm assuming you are only doing 120-140 (roughly), however if you wanted to experiment going into dnb/drumstep/breakcore (180-190) there are a few good tunes that speed up (and also slow down) of their own accord for 32/64 bars in...

Re: Korg Zero8 - Thoughts

Yeah if you could do us a couple of pics of your mod that would be sweet. I was thinking about doing something similar but I was told there may be issues with the fans interfering with the audio in some way, so give us a shout on how it goes down for you.

Re: Ableton Warp Modes

^^ this pretty much, I would use complex and complex pro for vocals. Beats for drums (usually on the double arrow forward setting with the value taken down) so that you get some really nice phat transients. You can get some awesome effect from using texture (or tones to a lesser extent) by fucking a...

Haha, smooth moves. Koan sound are fucking rinsing that kinda area atm. Some shameless self promotion cause I've just started a little foray into this tempo range and everyone on the WIP thread blanked me. http://soundcloud.com/edn/lazerfunk-9001 Going for that bassnectar hip-hop wobble kinda feel.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

@Danimal - Like the style, very cool and 8 bit. I'm not feeling any bass however, crank a sub up in there and it will be really phat! @OgGunslinger - I see what you are going for, that kinda west coast glitch think, its a cool style which I listen to a lot. However you reaaaalllly need to mix it dow...

Re: Tips for introducing more energy into a track...

make the volume in the build up a few db less than the drop this will make it seem more powerful when it drops cosign. Wait... what? That sounds technical and specific, I wanna know...! Fairly simple in fact. Ensure that the drop is louder than the intro/breakdown. This is done by managing your tun...

Re: Non dubstep production help

Similar construction to dubstep from what I can tell. Nice swung 4x4 beat, stabs instead of wubs... (use Saw down lfo setting instead of sine wave). Builds are pretty similar (whitenoise wooshes, sliced vox). Kick is very bassy and the other little bass bits are sidechained to it. Seems to pan aroun...

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread

In most ways yes operator>analogue, but I like analogue for certain things, it has some different routing options which I'm quite fond of. As well as having two separate lfo's.

Oh! I've also come to love stacking multiple synths in one instrument rack. Badbwoy layering 'tings a gwan.

Re: WIPs/unfinished tunes for feedback * no finished tunes *

First post so we will let you off. If you want feedback from people you have to give AT LEAST 3 other people feedback first. It's on page 1 of this thread. However like I say, first post so s'all good. Really like your intro, are they your own water recordings? The drop is good, drums nice, bass is ...

Re: Tips for introducing more energy into a track...

I know it's dubstep but I noticed something that Skism did quite effectively in his remix of "boom" by excision/datsik. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pr-5mgAAyKo Listen after the initial wobs on the drop, there comes in a high pitched whine which is sidechained to one of the bass noises, ...
