i mean i make the track as loud as i want in ableton.. then play it in itunes.. and i can still add a few db's by boosting the playback volume of teh mp3..

Felt the kick/snare were a little weak and getting lost under the midrange synth at times. Maybe check the EQing on the mixdown to give them a bit more space or beef them up a bit?

You kind of answered your own question there...try turning the grid off, experiment with swing and stick little "glitchy" percussion hits in here and there to get that kind of awkward, wonky sound. Something cool to throw people off would be to ...

The knobs in every synth basically do the same thing, give or take a few of them.

I'd say just mess around with the synth, creating different patches until you understand what does what.
