Re: Label or Independent?
Consider all the fine print carefully (the legal documents). If you have trouble understanding the contracts, contact an attorney or management which can objectively tell you what the details mean. The Devil is always in the details, and never sign anything without knowing full well what you're &quo...

Re: My Friends Keep Saying My Mix is "Too Crowded" Any Advic
So just lower levels even more? On the midrange. Sounds like the mid range is really crowded. Some headroom in this frequency range will do your track more justice. :P Also, check the gain settings on your fx chains especially compressors/limiters. If you're lowering the level and not noticing a ch...

Re: Live Performance Enhancing Drugs
Live performance enhancing drugs do not exist. :P If anything, such psychedelics only enhance your perception of your live performance and not the crowd's which could be devastating. To be as objective as possible, try and remain as sober as possible, but its always good to have something to mellow ...

Re: animoog for the ipad is $2.99 until 4/8
Does anyone use an iPad with a production PC? Also how would an iPad connect to a desktop PC without WiFi capabilities?
EDIT: I've seen an Alesis IO Dock, but that's the extent of my knowledge regarding iPads and how they would interface with a PC digital workstation.

Re: Is it mixdown or mastering?
Thats explains it. Yes these reference tracks are off youtube. Does the high frequency get cut off because of mp3 conversion, or just merely youtube quality? No offense to the OP, because I was once a noob too, but usually publicly admitting that you steal what most people on these forums are tryin...

Our roads are straight for the most part, but our politicans are super crooked. I guess that's the trade off we make... Straight roads for crooked politicans. I'd be much happier with crooked roads and straight politicians.wub wrote:^^ Easy to do in America, all your roads are straight, right?

Re: Is it mixdown or mastering?
in that case its just an instance of being a dummy. rip your vinyl to digital if you want to reference the track. Or stop looking at tunes through spectrum analyzers.. as if that's going to help you do anything I really hope this is sarcasm :) not the slightest bit. u actually think that shit is wo...

Re: Mix with your eyes closed
I completely disagree with the OP.
Usually, I mix with the audio muted.
I reserve keeping my eyes closed for working with power tools.
I'm actually typing all of this with my wanker.

Re: resonant bass? Headroom issues
So I scooped out all but the top of the bass and applied some multi-band distortion and threw a sine underneath. I don't have monitors so I can't tell if there's a gap between the sub and the rest of the bass, or if they are mudding into each other. Sounds decent to me, I'd appreciate some construc...

This. This order he even said it in designates how this should be prioritized. Before you even add an EQ or compressor to an FX chain, make sure your levels are spot on.Eridu wrote:balance the audio levels, eq, compress and maybe sidechain. Standard procedures in your case.

Re: Drum Bus Reverb
I find that reverb in almost any form on almost any kick almost always muddied up the mix Simply put that's a load of rubbish. You can obviously EQ it so it doesn't mud up the mix. there are many songs out there perfectly mixed with verb on the kick. Yeah but if you're EQing out the mud, you could ...

Re: EQ questions (Cutting highs/Boosting)
IMO, do what you have to do...and keep in mind the range of human hearing. You don't need any content at 25kHz, nobody will hear it and it will just eat up headroom. Cut mud and make space for other instruments...cut inaudible frequencies. rule 1: never trust internet advice. did a bit of investiga...

Re: EQ questions (Cutting highs/Boosting)
Idk, I'm feeling a bit skeptical about that study. I wouldn't say there's a "ton" but maybe an ounce of musically relevant info if that brain wave stuff does affect perception and pleasure of sound. For all the instruments but the crash cymbal and keys jangling, the "percentage of po...

Re: College subjects.
Two very separate and distinct paths here. For the software side, you'd be pursuing something akin to a computer science degree, which would entail becoming a programmer and learning procedural machine languages. For the hardware side, you'd want to go the electrical engineering route. Either way, b...
