Help Identify this song with "No Holds Barred" sampled

http://soundcloud.com/abei/wintermute-scientific
This song is named incorrectly - my friend lied and said he made it himself (his name is wintermute) but I have a pretty good feeling he didn't because he doesn't have any music equipment or software as far as i know and just renamed it.
I believe ...

Re: gain structure and mixing aka THE MONEYSHOT THREAD

This thread has been a massive help to my mixing and production in general. Pretty crucial info especially to those who just started producing, most people go in making everything super loud because they compare to other songs and dont realize their power comes from mixing down/proper mastering ...

Your whole post was good but I liked that line the most. Anyone should try to learn the fundamental language of music but you don't want to let rules constrain you. I found myself confronting this problem head on.

Re: TUTORIAL: Organising a sample library

I think my preferred method is going to be something like this : D:\Sample Library\01-Kicks\WhateverPackItcameFrom-Kick001.wav meaning that all my packs will have to be broken down and renamed. I used to use a program called Better File Rename but I lost it and its not free. Going to have to find a ...

Re: New Sample Pack with 100 .wav files!

Thanks. I have a question - how do you guys keep track of your samples? Most of mine are labelled like Kick 01 - Kick 128 and I have lots of packs. Not all sound good of course, do you rename or organize them in any way or even keep all of them? I'm a bit overwhelmed

Re: Skrillex assistance. NO, this is not about bass or leads

the drum is extremely compressed.....extremely.....

Excuse my newb-ish question, but just this just mean to use a high compression ratio?
Or is he using multiple compression instances in his signal chain?

At first I thought it meant multiple instances but then I realized the simplest solution ...

Re: Skrillex assistance. NO, this is not about bass or leads

No offense but - rhythmically... that was a quite bad an attempt at the drumline. After making my own drumline I came to the conclusion that he will put lets say 16 samples into a drum rack, ie: 4 hats, 4 snares, 2 crash, 2 kicks, etc... and layer them. You need not focus on creating a snare - the ...

Re: Velocity Support

On a side note. I have a KORG Electribe EMX-1, Great drum sequencer, but it doesnt have velocity sensitive pads omfg !!
So I routed my LPD8 through Ableton, with the output notes mapped to the proper ones to trigger the Electribe and voila, Velocity Sensitive Electribe w/ infinite pattern capability ...

Woke up this morning and tried to take Wub's advice - made another soundslikeskrillex snare.
I don't usually make my samples - I have 0 experience, the one last night was my first and this is my second.
I would like to see sombody else attempt it.

Re: How does DJ'ing work?

I personally never got along with ableton when it comes to DJing.
I would love to really get a feel for it, but when I tried I couldn't get my mixes as tight as DVS/vinyl
If ableton had some kind of nudge function for individual tracks, or even a pitch fader(+/-8%), then I would probably use ...

Re: Skrillex assistance. NO, this is not about bass or leads

Did i come close? It took 4 tries for this -- http://www.mediafire.com/file/p2qo36xws72zzsp/Asnare5.wav . I layered 2 snares with reverb on one, both tuned, and 1 cymbal and then rendered it, reimported it and compressed it a bunch. How is it? Its kind of hard to make yeah cause its still off. But ...

Re: How does DJ'ing work?

OK the reason why some people just press play and bounce around is because its easy. You can get one of those MIDI Controllers with the two simulated turntables for computer DJ'ing and create your own mixes. You can set loop points and trigger samples and whatnot and set effects and of course ...

Re: gain structure and mixing aka THE MONEYSHOT THREAD

The math following is correct now. With decibels:
-6 + -6 = 0
-12 + -12 = -6
so
-6 + -12 + -12 = 0

-12 + -9 + -9 = 0
-9 + -9 = -3
so
-12 + -3 = 0

I believe thats what you wanted to say.

going deeper down, all keeping master @ 0dB
(-18 + -18 + -18 + -18 + -18 + -18 + -18 + -18) =0dB
Thats 8 ...

Pads on the AKAI LPD8 as compared to MPK49/25 or MPC pads

I just got the Akai LPD8 and yeah it seems awesome, but AKAI lied. These arent the same pads as are on the MPC, they're similar but not the same. I have other people telling me the same thing. I was also considering getting a MPK - it has a bunch more features and theres more pads but I thought I ...
