In my experience, HK has a couple of nights that will play dubstep (can't remember the names, might pay to check the events forum). Shanghai is the same but the nights are few and far between. Anywhere else is pretty limited as far as electronic music goes. Hopefully something will be going on when...

It shouldn't matter whether its mainstream or not as long as you like what your listening too. Everyone has their own style that they like more or less than others, so find what you like and don't worry about other people. I'm going to be studying abroad in china either next summer or fall, does anyone know if dubstep has a following there? it'd be pretty cool to check out while I'm there.
