Re: Getting your songs heard & discovering new music?
Write good music and send it out to some DJ's who you respect who play your genre/style of music. There's no short cut mate. (Unless you know someone BIG who owes you a massive favour...) Any suggestions on getting their attention? Getting a hold of local DJ's would be straightforward, but bigger D...

Getting your songs heard & discovering new music?
What methods are you guys you using to get your songs out to a wider audience and to discover new music? I've been mostly trying to get my music out through word of mouth, friends, message boards, etc. but there's only so much I can do there. Discovering good (mostly underground) mostly involves man...

Re: YouTube Instructional Videos
Something more arrangement oriented would be nice. Stuff like writing a song that flows well.

Re: When should I attempt serious pieces?
Go ahead and try to build something. As you learn more about music theory and sound design incorporate those ideas into your track. Also, don't try to rush it. Leave it as a long-term project that won't be finished for at least a few months.

Sounds like a squeeky Dutch house synth. High pitched saw with lots of pitch bending.

Drums don't have key but you can look at it through a spectral analyzer to make sure you're dreams aren't hitting the same regions as the sample.

Re: An Unstoppable force meets an immovable object. . .
Just make do with what you have. You don't need to have a bunch of equipment to make good tunes. It'll also force you to work on making things sound good by getting things to have good melodies which is something that most dubstep lacks imo. It's not all about sound design.

Re: Ableton Warp Modes
Beats is good for beats. Texture is good for pads. Complex for vocals and warping songs. Repitch if you're going for a vinyl effect. You can get some interesting effects using beats and texture on bass.

Go to the sonic academy website and sign up as a free member. It gives you access to a lot more videos that aren't on their youtube page.
The dubspot channel on youtube is also very good.

Word that was a dope show. Sick sound system too.
What was that one track you played about halfway through your set with a sort of housy feel to it with the kick on every quarter note (if I'm remembering right). I loved it.

Re: Using filters outside of Massive
By using massive you can get more control over the shape of the LFO. It has something like 20 waveforms you can set it to. Its also useful having your filter LFO modulate things like wavetable position and intensity that you want in sync with your filter LFO.
